Guidelines for Community Calendar Event Entries

Please reserve the Community Calendar for true community events. If you need a calendar for your group's other events, contact DCN's Resource Allocation Committee.

To ensure the Community Calendar will reflect the vibrancy of our community and be uncluttered for ease of use at the same time, DCN urges all participants to adhere to the criteria below. DCN reserves the right to edit and to remove inappropriate entries in the Community Calendar as well as to terminate use of the Organization Calendar for groups which fail to follow the criteria. DCN also reserves the right to modify the criteria.

Criteria and Guidelines

  1. The event is a major local event, open to the public, and has a broad community appeal. For example, festivals, performances, major sport events, public lectures, exhibitions, neighborhood meetings, fundraisers, etc.
  2. The event is non-profit/non-commercial in nature. Events whose primary purpose is to promote/sell products or advertise services of individual businesses are not appropriate. However, events such as “Celebrate Davis” or “ArtAbout” that promote the activities of trade groups, or for-fee events such as fundraisers for non-profits are welcome.
  3. The targeted audience is the public instead of private/membership. For example, rehearsals for a drama production would be more appropriate for your Organization's Calendar. The performance itself, if open to the public, will be appropriate for the Community Calendar.
  4. The event is organized directly by the group granted a DCN web calendar OR the event is submitted as a single event by the organizer, i.e., not a third party event.
  5. For events that run for more than a couple of consecutive days, post the event for the opening day, and put the date range in the title. If the event crosses into another month, it's also OK to add an entry for the first day of the continuing month(s)
  6. Check the appropriate category(s) for the event. To facilitate search by event category(s), mark the appropriate category(s) only. Currently, the Community Calendar has the following categories:
    • Arts & Culture – e.g., art exhibitions, concerts, stage performances.
