  3. Celebrate Davis 2010 and Lucky Winner
  4. National Survey Results: How do those over 50 use social media and technology?

1. DCN and Yolo Election Results
In terms of traffic, election nights are usually among the busiest hours of the year for DCN. The Yolo Election's Office website is hosted by DCN, as part of our MOU with the County Clerk/Recorder. DCN also provides the feed that DCTV uses for its election night scroll. For detailed breakdowns of election results, click here

2. Celebrate Social Media Day with Free Hands-on Session
In recognition of Social Media Day on June 30, 2010, DCN will host an informal "drop-in" session at the City Computer Lab, 600 A Street. DCN volunteers will be on hand to answer your social media questions. Curious about Twitter? Are Facebook's new privacy settings confusing you? This is your chance to ask questions. Drop-in hours will be 6:30-8:00 p.m. No presentations are planned, just an opportunity for one-on-one assistance. Several desktops are available in the lab on a first-come-first-served basis. Bring your Wi-Fi equipped laptop if you like.

Last month DCN held two new classes on social media. We had a great turnout and enjoyed teaching community members and nonprofit representatives about how and why to use social media. We demonstrated how to use two of the more popular tools (Facebook and Twitter) and set up a support group. Questions? Contact admin@dcn.org.

3. Celebrate Davis 2010 and Lucky Winner
Celebrate Davis was a great success! Thanks to all who visited our booth. Social Media was the theme, and we welcomed many new people to our booth and Facebook Page. On May 19 we held a drawing for our grand prize: a laptop bag stuffed with a downtown Davis gift card, computer items, and a DCN t-shirt. The lucky winner was DCN Facebook fan Amy Green Seropian. Congratulations Amy! To see photos from the event, click here.

4. National Survey Results: How do those over 50 use social media and technology?
AARP recently commissioned a national telephone survey of the population aged 50+ to gather information on this age group's use of social media and technology. Among the findings, 40% of adults age 50+ consider themselves extremely or very comfortable using the Internet; approximately 27% use social media websites with Facebook being the most popular (23%). Of those using social media websites, 73% are connected to relatives other than children and grandchildren. Interested in reading more? Click here.
