Welcome and Introductions (Michelle Reardon)
Joint Fundraising Policy subcommittee report (Lisa, Amy,
Michelle)
The Agreement between the High School and the Junior High School that
merging the fundraising efforts has been difficult.
The name DSOMA is becoming more recognized in the
community. We all need to do fundraising for
instrument costs. Because of illness we
were not able to have our meeting prior to this meeting, but we did
agree that the Junior High committee will get a spreadsheet from DSOMA
on the budget and spending, and how to merge the two.
Quartet compensation/credit
The question is how to compensate the quartets who play
regularly? Should all money flow into
individual accounts? In the past, the donations
made at the Farmers Market made to quartets were to be used towards the
DJHOB organization as a whole. We looked
at this and decided that each student should start banking a student
account for field trips taken at the High School
level. We agreed to bank 25% of the 7th and 8th
graders profits in their student accounts, and keep 75% for the DJHOB
(I think… help me on this). We
agreed to bank 100% of donations/earnings to the student accounts for
students in 9th – 12th grade. Take the
number of students in the group, and divide the money equally between
them.
When chamber music is performed by the students, the
“profits’ will be divided by the number of
participants. Jan Carmichael tracks the student
accounts. Any money left in a senior’s account is
absorbed into the overall fund when they graduate.
DSOMA pays $140 for a Financial Report. Their liability
insurance is based on revenues and the least expensive estimate for
this is $800.
Angelo and Michelle met with Mr. Robert Wennberg. The
Wennberg Foundation has ceased to exist and their $15,000 will transfer
to DSOMA and be invested in a 10 mo. CD.
The Survey Committee consists of Joan Sallee, Lani Fulcher, Anne
Costello, Michelle Reardon and Heidi Talbot. The Committee is
planning a meeting with Mr. Murphy to get approval for a letter to the
focus group which will approve the survey prior to its dissemination to
the public. A letter will be written to the focus group
describing the project. The survey will go to parents of students in
grades 4, 5 and 6 and also to the students in grades 7, 8 and 9 who
attended elementary school in Davis. Amy recommended
self-addressed envelopes and anonymous responses.
Michelle will ask the district to pay for the mailing to and from the
responders. The survey has been substantially revised per UC
Davis experts’ suggestions. It is 3 pages including
the cover sheet.
Boosters Meeting
The 11/09/06 minutes were approved. It was agreed that each
member is to bring their own copy of the minutes.
Hiram will email Angelo the schedule for the elementary
schools’ concerts and Angelo will email the teachers.
Nine people have signed up to attend the January 20 workshop from 1
– 4:30. Flyers have been
distributed. It has been advertised in the paper.
Marja has 40 T-shirts in blue and green. The snack money is
in the $1,000 budget. Marja needs 5 helpers from 12
– 1:15, 1 from 2 – 3 and 2 from 4:30 – 5
for clean up. Only the advanced orchestra is invited to be
teachers. Emerson is booked and the custodian
notified. Marja would like a list of the advanced teachers
from Angelo. The music is ready. There was
discussion re the 2nd concert and it was agreed to keep in on the
schedule until we see the turnout of the 1st one.
Hiram says that the incoming class is the same as last year.
Murphy sent an email stating that the JR. high Boundary change (to
increase enrollment at Emerson) has been postponed a year.
Angelo passed out the 2007 calendar.
The advanced orchestra was invited by the Sacramento News and Review to
participate in the Jammies at Mondavi on March 30 with a rehearsal on
March 26.
Four principals have responded positively to our suggestion to play at
their school. The stages are small and maybe 20 musicians
will fit. Patwin is important. There will be
½ hour of music, played twice if necessary.
Thursdays from 9 – 11 and 10 – 12:30 the other days
are good times for Angelo to do these concerts.
