REMINDER

  1. CAHSEE Information! Testing will be Wednesday, February 3rd. · Please look for the posted information in you classrooms! · Sophomores will report to the following locations: Abdelnur thru Pesola will be in the New Gym Peters thru Zhuk will be in the Old Gym · Bring school ID · DO NOT BRING CELLULAR PHONES! Upon entrance to the testing room you will be asked to turn in your phone with us. If your phone goes off you will be escorted from the test and your test will be invalid.
  2. Schedule Change. Wednesday, February 3; 8:55-2:30; 2, 4, & 6 (Testing 2 & 4); Thursday, February 4; 7:45-3:30; 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, & 7; Friday, February 5; 7:45- 3:30; 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, & 7.
  3. Attention all students with STUDY HALL on their 2nd semester schedule: you MUST attend your Study Hall class during the period in which you are assigned. Study Hall classes are to meet in the MPR. Roll is taken daily and absences will count against your overall attendance. To add something in the place of Study Hall, you must fill out a change request form in the counseling office by Friday.
  4. The last day to add a class is Friday February 5. See your counselor if you need to add a class.

  2. The Guitar Club meets Wednesday at 12:15 in room P-22. This is an important meeting, as we need to discuss future plans.
  3. PTA will be hosting a presentation about NAVIANCE on February 3 at 7:00 pm in the DSHS library. NAVIANCE is a comprehensive web-based program that students and parents can use as a tool in planning for college it was purchased by the PTA for all DSHS students to use at school and at home. The program includes college and career planning, SAT test preparation, and scholarship listings, as well as many other features. Courtenay Tessler, DSHS counselor and Debbie Austin, PTA Vice President (and college advisor at St. Francis High School) will be demonstrating the NAVIANCE program. We hope you will join us.
  4. Ice-Cream in February???? Yes, make a copy of the attached flyer and you will help the Davis High School Bands earn 20% for every purchase. Share the flyer with friends and have a party at Baskins and Robbins in the E Street Plaza between 6:30-10:00 on Wednesday, February 3rd.

  1. The first Varsity Football meeting will be on Thursday, February 4 during lunch. Meet in Coach Blackwell’s room, N-8 at 12pm lunchtime.
  2. Attention all math and science tutors. There will be a mandatory meeting this Friday at lunch in S-9.
  3. Don't miss Battle of the Bands this Friday at the Brunelle Theater! Six bands from DHS and DaVinci will be competing for a $100 cash prize! Doors open at 7:30, bring $6 and a student ID. Go to cityofdavis.org for more info.
  4. SENIORS: This is the time of year to apply for financial aid! To apply for federal and state financial aid, you need to complete the FAFSA. You can complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov The FAFSA deadline is March 2. Come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office (located next to counseling) for more information.
  5. Attention all NHS members, we will be having registration this week from Wednesday through Friday in L-21. See you there!
  6. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Davis Firefighters are looking for volunteers to help with their crab feed in the Senior Center on February 20 from 5:00 pm-9:30 pm. Volunteers will help with food prep, set-up, serving, and clean-up. Deadline to sign-up is February 15. Come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office (located next to counseling) for contact information.
  7. JUNIORS AND SENIORS: Are you interested in being an intern in state government? Assembly member Mariko Yamada is accepting applications from high school juniors and seniors for volunteer internship positions in the Vacaville district office. Interns will perform "field representative" duties, including helping constituents with problems with state agencies, planning events, press relations, special projects, administrative support, and clerical duties that includes letter writing. Come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office (located next to counseling) for more information and an internship application.
  8. All students interested in AP Art Studio for 2010-2011 must pass the portfolio review scheduled in February. The deadline to submit portfolios is February 18.

  1. Bank of America is looking for community-minded high school juniors and seniors to participate in their Student Leaders Program. This is a unique opportunity where students with a passion for helping their communities can participate in an 8-week paid summer internship at a local non-profit; attend a six-day, all-expense paid Student Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C.; and learn how nonprofits, government, and business can partner to create a positive impact in our communities.   2. SENIORS: UC Davis is hosting Financial Aid Awareness Week Feb 8-12. There will be five presentations about UCD financial aid, and two nighttime FAFSA workshops where you can get help completing your FAFSA. This special event is open to all students and parents. Come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office (next to counseling) for more information.
  3. The California State Summer School for the Arts (INNERSPARK) is seeking the most talented high school-aged visual, literary, media and performing artists in California. The students who are selected through the competitive application process will attend one of the country's premier summer arts institutes on the campus of the California institute of the Arts, in Valencia, from July 10- August 6, 2010. The deadline to apply is February 27. For more information about this program, come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office (located next to counseling).
  4. There are openings for students who would like to TA over at North Davis elementary school and work with elementary age students. Good attendance is required. See your counselor to add. The open periods are 1,2 and 5.
