- Patriotic Observance for February 12, 2010
On this day in 1809, Abraham Lincoln is born in Hodgenville, Kentucky. Lincoln is remembered as “The Great Emancipator.” Although he waffled on the subject of slavery in the early years of his presidency, his greatest legacy was his work to preserve the Union and his signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.
- Are you looking for something to do this summer? How about an international adventure? Rustic Pathways provides travel programs, language immersion, and community service opportunities for high school students. Those who sign up can find themselves working alongside monks in Cambodia, trekking the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa, living in Yak tents in India, or traveling down remote waterways in boats in Burma. A representative from Rustic Pathways will be here TODAY, Friday, February 12 at lunch in the large conference room to answer your questions. - SENIORS: This is the time of year to apply for financial aid! To apply for federal and state financial aid, you need to complete the FAFSA. You can complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The FAFSA deadline is March 2. Come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office for more information.

- Are you an African American man or woman interested in studying architecture? If so, Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York has 10 full ride scholarships for young men and women of color interested in pursuing a professional degree in architecture. - The deadline to submit articles for the March DHS PTA Newsletter is Wednesday, February 17. Please send news, announcements, etc. to DHS PTA Media listserver at dhsptamedia@mailman.dcn.org. Please include your name, e-mail address, and phone number in case the newsletter editor has questions about your submission. The newsletter is the only communication too that reaches all DHS families whether they have Internet access or not. The newsletter is generally available at the beginning of each month. This is a great way to inform, notify, or enlist parents’ help for upcoming DHS school and student activities.
- Attention Senior Families: Now is the time to buy your Graduate’s reservation for Grad Nigh 2010 on June 11. Go to www.davisgradnight.org to make your reservations. Advance sale only $90 or $110 at the door.
