Friends of Community Media Organizes for For Future Vision
**************************************

Davis' non-commercial community media includes DCTV, DCN, the new low frequency radio station, the school district's educational channel, and the City's government Channel. Friends of community media is organizing to unite these into a more coordinated and integrated community media effort. Davis citizens who support community media in town are encourage to participate in the second meeting of the organization on Tuesday, December 16, from 7-9:00 p.m. in the Blanchard room of the Davis Branch Library. The meeting will begin to explore how to develop a new building/media center to house studios, offices, training facilities and equipment for some or all of the community media entities. Participants will plan next steps to help advance a good contract between the City and Comcast. Participants will begin investigating a public utility option for cable and broadband service delivery in Davis. Also on December 16, at its regular meeting, the Davis City Council will consider passing a resolution drafted by friends of community media that sets the standards for meeting community needs in the City's next long term contract with Comcast. The item is scheduled after 9:00 p.m. in order that people attending the friends meeting can attend the Council meeting as well.
