Straight talk on SMUD plans
A recent article by Greg Chang of Bloomberg News ( online.securityfocus.com/archive/12/411262/30/0/threaded ) misrepresents the facts about the SMUD annexation of portions of Yolo County. Chang stated, "The Sacramento Municipal Utility District is attempting to take over part of the
utility's territory near the cities of Davis and Woodland."
The facts are that the Cities of Davis, West Sacramento and Woodland together with Yolo County requested annexation. That request for annexation was made on the recommendation of consultants hired to advise the City of Davis on the best way to pursue a local municipal utility district.
In that recommendation the consultant advised the City of Davis to pursue a joint request for annexation with Woodland and West Sacramento, and to include contiguous portions of Yolo County.
The citizens of Davis, West Sacramento, Woodland and Yolo County are fed up with PG&E's service and rates and are taking steps necessary to fire PG&E and hire SMUD to provide them electricity services . Chang's characterization of annexation as a takeover is simply wrong. The facts support the truth, that annexation is a ratepayer revolt.
