Attention 6th Grade Parents
The 6th grade legacy art projects are an annual tradition at Valley Oak. Many projects can be seen throughout the school campus in the form of murals, tile dragons and mosaic planters. We are looking for parents to help facilitate this year's project. A meeting will be scheduled in the next week or so to include interested parent volunteers and community artists.
If you are can help with this art project, please speak with your student's teacher and email valleyoakpta@yahoo.com.

Children’s International Storytelling
Crane Culture Theater presents the “Grandfather’s Dream”, Sunday, Feb. 10 from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Community Room of the International House at 10 College Park in Davis. Performers enact the amusing story of a post-war Vietnamese family divided over whether to plant rice in the marsh where the cranes once lived, or to give the crane one last chance to return before farming the land. After the show, attendees can glimpse the beauty and wonders of local Sandhill cranes on video, and will have the opportunity to make a crane bracelet reflecting the crane’s life cycle and habitats.
Crane Culture Theater is a Sacramento-based traveling troupe that brings international folktales to the stage. The event is open to the public. There is no charge for International House members. There is a suggested donation for non-members ($2 per person or $5 per family).
One Sunday afternoon per month, children ages 4 through 10 enjoy storytelling performances with international content at the I-House.For further details, contact Shirley German, 758-4196 or Kathryn Tyson, 753-5007. More information on the Storytelling Program is at www.internationalhousedavis.org.
Yearbook Photos Needed
Work is under way on the annual Valley Oak yearbook! We are looking for photos from classroom activities, field trips, etc. from this school year. If you have taken any photos and would like to share them, you can transfer your photos to a disc and drop it off in the school office. You can also bring your camera and memory card and check in the computer lab on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon or Tuesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for Julie Cuetara, the Valley Oak computer specialist. She can help transfer the photos for you.
The deadline for submitting photos is March 1st. If your child's class has any special projects or field trips scheduled, bring along a camera!
Oral Language Fair
The Oral Language Fair is an oral language competition for all students at Valley Oak. This year’s theme is “We Shall Overcome: Words of Perseverance.”
Parents/family members are invited to attend during the class performance schedule listed below. It is a good idea to arrive at the MPR about 10 to 15 minutes early. Please note: No entry/exit will be permitted in the middle of a performance. This is too much of a distraction for our student performers. We will open the doors in between performances for audience members to take a seat.
