STAR Testing Focus Group
Parents interested in improving the way STAR testing results are communicated are invited to discuss the meaning of STAR performance levels and to share ideas about brochures and web screens at the Sacramento County Office of Education on Tuesday, Feb. 26.
The focus group begins with a dinner from 5:45 to 6:15 p.m. followed by a meeting from 6:15 to 8 p.m. Child care will be provided for school-aged children during the focus group by request. Black History Week Activities
Black History Spirit Week is Feb. 15 to Feb. 22. Kicking off our Black History Spirit Week is Award Winning Children’s Author, Sandy Lynne Holman, who will be visiting Valley Oak Friday, Feb. 15 to spend the day with our students and staff. Sandy has presented to thousands of youth and adults on a variety of topics such as cultural diversity, early childhood education, resiliency and character education.
She is the founder of the The Culture C.O-O.P., an organization she developed to assist people and organizations working with diversity in education. Sandy’s award winning books and other educational items are available to order. She will be available for book signing after the assemblies.

Montgomery Welcoming Activities Rescheduled
The Welcoming Activities for Valley Oak families headed to Montgomery Elementary have been rescheduled. The Information Meeting with Principal Shelly Wickwire will be held Wednesday, Feb. 13 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Front Office. A Welcome Coffee will be held Friday, Feb. 15 from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m.
If you are unable to attend either activity, please feel free to stop by our school for Open House on April 3rd from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.
