It’s Carnival Time!
The Emerson Junior High PTA is bringing a carnival to Davis this weekend – the first one since 1971.
It will be held April 10-13 at Cannery Park on Covell Boulevard and J Street. It is run by Butler Amusements and includes about 18 midway rides for all ages, game and food concessions, and on Saturday and Sunday, live music and other fun activities.
You can purchase your tickets at Carousel Stationary (706 Second Street in Davis), at the Farmers’ Market, or by ordering at EmersonCarnival@gmail.com. Advanced tickets cost $20 and entitle you to a wristband for unlimited rides on any one day of the Carnival. Tickets at the Carnival cost $25 or you can buy coupons for individual rides. Admission and parking are free.
Carnival ticket order forms are at:

Multi-Age Classes at Birch Lane
If you have a child entering first or second grade at Birch Lane next year, you may be interested in a multi age class for your child. Multi age classes include students from two or three primary grades (1-2-3, 2-3 or 1-2) in a single classroom. Students generally stay with the same teacher for two to three years and form a small family-like community of learners.
Brochures about multi age classes are available in the Valley Oak or Birch Lane offices. If you would like more information, or would like to sign your child up for a multi-age placement, please contact Kathy Tyzzer at Birch Lane at 757-5395 or tyzzer@djusd.k12.ca.us.

School Lunch Payment System
The DJUSD has adopted a new computerized Point of Sale payment system for meals purchased in the school cafeterias. The first day of service for this new system will be Monday, April 14. The first few days the lunch lines may be slower, but as the students familiarize themselves with the system, the lines should move much quickly than before.
Every student will have their own personal lunchroom account based on their current student ID number. Students can access their accounts on the PIN pads located at the register. By April 14 we are assuming that all students know their student ID number used for academic eligibility, but if they forget, we can access it through the register. It is strongly recommended that all students remember their numbers, as this will make the lunch lines move faster.
We encourage parents and students to deposit money into the student’s account, although they may still pay cash. Monies paid into a student account may be used for the purchase of regular meals and a la carte items such as milk and juice. When sending in money to the Kitchen Manager by check or cash, please include the student’s ID number on the check payable to Student Nutrition Services or on the envelope so it is deposited into the correct account. Parents may also prepay meals online starting April 13. Please refer to the DJUSD Student Nutrition Services webpage for online prepayments.
If your student is qualified for free or reduced price lunches or breakfasts, this information is securely contained within the system and the meal will be processed just as it is for all other students. If you are concerned about a food allergy that your student has, please notify the cafeteria with this information. A warning will appear on the cashier’s screen for a quick review of the items on the student’s meal tray.
Thank you in advance for your patience in implementing this system which we believe will be a significant improvement for our operations.
