Valley Oak Farewell Carnival
Friday, June 6, 5 to 7:30 p.m.
Come celebrate 54 years of Dragon Pride!
Over 30 games and activities including inflatable games, Rocknasium climbing wall (parents must be present to sign a waiver) and the ever popular Cake Walk! Food will be available for purchase from Hotdogger, Jamba Juice and Woodstock's Pizza as well as cotton candy and popcorn. Entertainment will be provided by the Aggie Band-uh! and the Harper Jazz Band. Visit the "Hall of Memories" in the MPR.
Tickets will not be sold this year. Instead, each current Valley Oak student will come home wearing a wristband on Friday, June 6. This wristband will be good for all games and activities (not food). Non-Valley Oak siblings and community members may purchase a wristband for $5 that night with proceeds benefiting the Davis Schools Foundation.
Donations of cupcakes and cakes are needed for the Cake Walk! Donations may be brought to the school office during school hours on Friday, June 6 or directly to the Cake Walk game that night.
Great Question Raffle
How many times have you heard the phrase, “That’s a great question!”? Have you stopped to consider exactly what makes a great question? Well, here in the Valley Oak science program we did just that and we decided that a great question:
is on the topic of the lesson at hand
pushes the lesson forward
makes us all think
When this type of question is asked, students are awarded with a raffle ticket that entitles them to a chance in The Great Question Raffle! We also award tickets to our English language learners for taking risks and asking any question that is on the topic under discussion. The prize this year is a telescope, and the drawing will be held during the 6th grade awards assembly, June 10 at 10:35 a.m. -Bill Storm, Science Teacher
School Board Resolution for Valley Oak
The School Board will be honoring Valley Oak for the 54 years of service our school provided to our students, community and district. A resolution will be presented at this Thursday's School Board meeting at 7 p.m. in the Community Chambers. The meeting will also be broadcast on cable television DJUSD Education Channel 17 and can be viewed in live streaming video at: http://www.djusd.tv/Programs/SchoolBoard.htm.

If you are on campus this week, stop by the school office and share your sentiments on the large poster in the school hallway.
Student Council Activities
The Student Council has lots of fun end-of-the-year activities planned.
Monday: Students will write notes or draw pictures to say goodbye to Valley Oak. These will be posted so visitors to Friday’s Carnival can view them.
Tuesday: Wear your favorite hat to school day
Student Council Luncheon from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in Luisa’s Room 11A
Wednesday: Switcheroo Recess- Intermediate student pair up with younger students.
Thursday: Twin day-dress alike
Friday: School Sing-a-Long before going to class in the morning (see song below)

Dweezil, the Dragon
They call her Dweezil, Dweezil, graceful as dragons,
No one you know is star of the show.

Flying all over, bringing us cheer!
Valley Oak loves the dragon you see
