Welcome to the Garden Program!
The goal of the Willett Garden program is to foster an understanding and appreciation of gardening through hands-on gardening projects and informative, fun lessons with background about gardening topics, such as understanding plant types, soil, weed control, and composting. Projects may include plant-based crafts, but the overall focus is on appreciating that our food comes from plants growing.
Garden Program Overview, 2011-2012
Weekly Lessons
There are no weekly lessons along with supplies provided. There are, however, a wealth of lessons from previous years available on the web:
Lessons
(There are binders in the garden shed that contain some garden lessons. But these are old and incomplete. The website is a much better resource.)
Lara Downes has volunteered to coordinate the Pumpkin Pancake lesson, including supplies. Melissa Borrelli has volunteered to provide occassional lessons with supplies. Anyone who would like to coordinate lessons and supplies is welcome to!
Garden Shed
The garden shed contains gardening, cooking, and craft supplies. The key is available in the office on the counter.
It can be daunting to find things in the over-crowded shed. Feel free to contact those with some shed-history to (Ginger, Erin, Cyndi) ask if specific supplies are there.
Kristin Fugitt has volunteered to keep an eye on the shed to avoid it getting too messy. But of course, please clean up after yourself in the shed.
Garden Bed Assignments
Expenses
Receipts should be given to the PTA treasurer. They can be left in the office for her. Please include your name and contact information and note that the expenses are for the garden program.
Garden Infrastructure
Erin Wright is the unsung hero of the Willett gardens. She sneaks in on weekends and keeps the beds in order, fixing drip watering systems, weeding neglected areas, etc.
If anything (ie drip/sprinklers) is broken, please contact Erin.
