I will not be able to attend the Davis Democrat Club meeting. I will try to give copies of the agenda to Tony Gruska tomorrow afternoon (drop off 15 copies in his mailbox) and have some of the past minutes transcribed and printed for distribution. One Day Notice. There will be a Davis Democrat Club board meeting on Wednesday, November 2nd at 7PM in the Blanchard Room of the Davis Branch of the Yolo County Library. The address is 315 East 14th Street. Please note that any Davis Democrat Club member is welcome to attend the meetings. We normally have at least 1 to 4 guests per meeting. We have never had a meeting without someone from the public in attendance. At the last meeting we had 5 guests. The club by-laws say that people cannot miss 3 meetings in a row without an excuse. There is going to be a Thursday, December 1 Holiday Party. We will discuss the details. If you have any suggestions for the agenda, please send them to Kingsley, Tony, or me via the list. There should be a final agenda sent out on Sunday, January 8th. Please also be aware that someone will be telephoning the board members to remind them of the meeting, probably Betty Weir. The Davis Democrats endorses the following three candidates for Davis Joint Unified School District: Sheila Allen, RN, PhD; Gina Surkata Daleiden; and Tim Taylor. Please vote for them on this election day cycle. It is the view of many that Davis School Board has been the launching point for many Republican candidates in Yolo County, though they have been defeated in elections for higher office. The problem is that the last Republican to run for California Assembly, who was elected to the Davis School Board, did better than anyone expected in Davis precincts in his last run. If not for the efforts of the Davis Democrat Club and other local campaign workers at signing up new Democratic voters in Davis, he would have been much closer at the polls, commenting that he had significantly increased the number of Davis voters voting for him. His statement was that if the number of people that voted for him were not offset by new Democrat voters, he would have won the last election in 2004. With the new Democrats signed up to vote in Davis, the percentages remained roughly the same, even though total voter turn numbers were way up from the last election. The Bottom Line is: This is why the DDC would like you to support these 3 Democrats running for Davis School Board filling the 3 available seats on election day. This is important for the future governance of Yolo County and the region. The Califorina Democratic Party recomments the following positon on the propositions: Vote No on Proposition 73 Vote No on Proposition 74 Vote No on Proposition 75 Vote No on Proposition 76 Vote No on Proposition 77 Vote No on Proposition 78 Vote Yes on Proposition 79 Vote Yes on Proposition 80 The Bottom Line is: Send a message to the Republican party and Arnold by defeating his ballot initiatives. This will substantially weaken Arnold and the Republican platform in their campaign run for Governor and other statewide elected seats in November 2006. We can take back the governor's office in 2006! Thank you for your attention, G Richard Yamagata for the Davis Democrat Club PS. Thursday is Davis Democrat Club volunteer day with the ABC group against Arnold's propositions. The volunteer time is from 7PM to 9PM. Please show up if you have time to phone bank. You can call Lyle Smith for details. If you do not have his phone number, call 848-8634. The new proposals reverse months of bipartisan negotiations and ignore the growing calls for reform from across the political spectrum. A final vote is expected in the House and Senate THIS WEEK, so we need you to call your Members of Congress as soon as you can. Take action now and and tell them to vote NO on the Patriot Act reauthorization bill! Your call to Congress is urgently needed. Dear Friend, I am writing personally to urge you to join me and the entire PDA team in helping get out the vote for Steve Young, PDA's first Congressional endorsement, in a special election to be held this coming Tuesday, December 6, 2005 in Orange County California. Steve is running against two conservatives, Republican State Senator John Campbell and American Independent, Jim Gilchrist, founder of the border vigilante group, the Minute Man Project. If they split the Republican vote, and PDA helps turn out at least 100,000 voting Democrats in the district, Steve and PDA will make history. A victory for Steve is a victory for all Progressives! Because Steve's race is so important, I will be on the ground in California from this Saturday through Election Day helping to get out the progressive Democratic vote. I need your help as well. There are three important things you can do: 1. Please join the Virtual Phone Bank . No matter where you live, help make phone calls to encourage Orange County Democrats to get out and vote. Your computer and a phone is all you need. Just send an e-mail to Dr. Bill, the Orange County PDA coordinator, at honeyman4 at aol.com , and in the subject line type "Virtual Phone Bank." Then, in the body of your message, tell Dr. Bill how many blocks of calls you will be able to make. One block represents 50 phone numbers. Dr. Bill will send you back a log-in and password for each block you request, as well as instructions for calling and downloading a phone script. I needn't tell you how important a victory like this would be for PDA and for America . 2. If at all possible, please join Steve and me at the next Orange County PDA meeting this coming Monday December 5, 2005 at 7:00 pm. We will meet at Steve?s headquarters, 101 Pacifica, Suite 240, Irvine, on the corner of Barancca and Pacifica about 1/2 mile east of the Irvine Spectrum and diagonal across Barancca from the Doubletree Hotel. Please bring your cell phone. I will update you regarding National PDA matters, we will hear from Steve, and then we will all get to work, some of us making phone calls and others leafletting movie theater lines. 3. Join the ?YOUNG FOR CONGRESS? human billboard campaign on election day . We will be in the streets on election day urging voters to vote for Steve! There will be two shifts: one from 6:30 AM ? 8:30 AM and then again from 5:00 PM -7:30 PM. If you can join us for any part of those time please email me at Tim at pdamerica.org . PDA activists from across the country are helping with this important effort. I hope you can too. Working together PDA is building the progressive wing of the Democratic Party in Orange County and across the nation. In a sense we've already won. PDA has become much stronger in Orange County as a result of Steve?s campaign. And PDA is committed to continue building the progressive wing of the Democratic Party well beyond this one special election on December 6. I look forward to working with you on this Orange County election, and to our work together on many election campaigns to come. Please, help in any way you can. Nobody else can take your place!
