country -- and Karl Rove too -- to assess the early strength of my campaign.

Truthfully, my Republican colleagues are a bit frustrated with me.  I keep
pointing out inconvenient truths to them, like the failure of the war in
Iraq.  I have even invited people like Al Gore to testify about global
warming before my committee.  They'd like nothing better than to replace me
with one of their rubber stamp GOP Senators, reciting Karl Rove's talking
points on command.

 

That's not going to happen.  Let's send the Republicans a message that my
Senate seat is not theirs for the taking by surpassing $2 million in
cash-on-hand before this Saturday's deadline.

 

Let Karl Rove and the Republicans know that this is one Senate seat they can

Democrats have 51 seats in the United States Senate.  Just 51. And we
definitely can't afford a single defeat that would return us to the days of
Republican control.

 

What has Democratic control of the Senate meant?  Putting global warming
front and center on the agenda.  Shifting the debate to how to end the war
in Iraq, not how to cover up George Bush's mistakes.  Raising the minimum
wage for the first time in ten long years. Sending the President a bill to
fund a real stem cell research program.  Uncovering rampant abuses in power,
such as the White House's role in firing United States Attorneys who did not
hew to their right-wing political line.

 

Republicans and their special interest allies are accustomed to using their
money advantage to throw their weight around and intimidate their opponents.
Help me blow past our $2 million in cash-on-hand goal by June 30, and let
Republicans know that if they really want my seat, they will be in the fight
of their lives.
