Just look at the vigorous presidential primary we've got on our hands. Right now, every one of the Democratic campaigns is working around the clock to become our nominee, and any of them would be a great choice. But when the dust settles and people like you pick our nominee, the real challenge will begin. This time, though, it won't be a debate of ideas with fellow Democrats. It will be against a Republican machine eager to redeem its losses in 2006, fighting to extend George Bush's policies for another four years. We've all seen the way they run campaigns, so we have to be unified and ready. We know that the Republicans are going to come at us with every scam they think up to suppress the vote. In the past, they've abused robocalls that hide their true identity, jammed the phones Democrats used for getting out the vote, and purged voters from the voter rolls. We need to be united in order to stop them. Stand up and show our candidates, our opponents, and the country just how strong the Democratic Party is by joining me in a pledge to support the Democratic candidate for President in 2008 - no matter who wins. When we have a nominee, they'll know that thousands of Democrats from across the country are united - even if they may not have supported them in the primary. http://www.democrats.org/GetUnited Every one of the Republican front-runners - Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee and John McCain - would continue President Bush's failed policies. America can't take a third Bush term, but that is all the Republicans offer. They believe that President Bush's war in Iraq is a success. We believe that it's time to bring our troops home. They support President Bush's pardon of White House Aide Scooter Libby. We believe in widespread ethics reform legislation to clean up the mess in Washington. They agree with President Bush's veto of children's health insurance funding. We believe that no parent should have to worry about whether or not they can afford to take their children to a doctor. No matter who you plan to vote for in the primary, there's one simple fact we can all agree on: Any one of our candidates will be better than four more years of failed Republican policies. Pledge your support for the Democratic nominee in 2008, and then ask your friends to do the same. Everyone - from the nominee to the media to the Republicans - should know just how many people are behind our candidate this year. January 10, 2008 For Immediate Release Contact: (916) 863-6881 STATEMENT BY LT. GOVERNOR JOHN GARAMENDI ON GOVERNOR'S 2008 - 09 BUDGET PROPOSAL SACRAMENTO ? Lt. Governor John Garamendi had the following comments today on the proposed budget: ?The budget proposed today fails a very simple test: it does not meet the needs of California. ?Thirty years ago, I began my career in public service hopeful that our state could do more to improve the lot of California?s families. Sadly, the budget debate today is about how our people can get by with less ? less education, less healthcare, and fewer opportunities for the future. ?California is at a crossroads. We know we can no longer paper over the fiscal challenges that confront state and local governments, but neither can we abandon our moral responsibility to protect the most vulnerable, or compromise the historic promise of our Golden State. ?There is no question that our state?s chronic structural imbalance calls us to carefully examine our budgeting priorities, remembering that the success of the Golden State over the past half century was based on a robust, entrepreneurial private sector matched by state investments that propelled us into the 21st century. ?We built the foundation for innovation and achievement with the world?s best education systems that trained our workforce and researchers, a highway system unparalleled in its effectiveness at moving goods to market and people to work, and a water system that gave life to the California economy as we know it today. ?This budget will undoubtedly test our resolve ? but when tested, California has always emerged stronger. Remember, in the middle of the Great Depression, California overcame political and financial obstacles to build the Golden Gate Bridge ? the enduring symbol of California?s spectacular record of innovation and achievement. ?Over the next six months, we face a critical decision -- whether to continue to invest in our future or abandon the historical commitment that made the Golden State. ?With a powerful and diverse economy, a capable and motivated workforce, and extraordinary entrepreneurs, educators, and research facilities, we stand on a strong foundation. I know that working together we can once again meet these challenges and emerge stronger in the years ahead.? # # # Not paid for at state expense Paid for by Garamendi 2010 (Lt. In another display of momentum, Hillary Clinton today received the endorsement of U.S. Congressman Mike Thompson of California?s First Congressional District. ?I have worked with Senator Clinton since she was First Lady and she has always shown herself to be an intelligent, hard-working, and compassionate public servant who really cares about the people of our country,? said Congressman. Thompson (D-CA). ?Her lifetime of experience, including her most recent work in the United States Senate, has given her a deep understanding of issues critical to rural communities like those throughout our district - including the difficulty in accessing quality healthcare and the challenges and benefits of sustainable agriculture.? Representative Thompson was elected to represent California?s First Congressional District in 1998 after severing in the California State Senate. Thompson was the first Vietnam veteran elected to the California State Senate, continues to own and operate a small, organic vineyard, and has made his reputation in Congress bringing Republicans and Democrats together on important legislation. ?Representative Thompson has dedicated his life to serving his country and he has an incredible record of delivering results to the people of his district,? said Senator Clinton. ?From urban centers to the spectacular North Coast, families I talk to are looking for change. Dear Friend, 21st Century Democrats is proud to announce our endorsement of Dan Seals for the United States Congress. After nearly unseating obstructionist Republican Congressman Mark Kirk in 2006, Dan is prepared to finish the job this year. This race is expected to be one of the hardest fought contests in the nation, but we at 21st Century Democrats are confident that Dan is the best candidate to bring positive change to Illinois? 10th Congressional District. Help the Seals? Campaign Win in 2008 21st Century Democrats has already put an experienced field organizer on the ground in the 10th district to promote Dan?s vision for our country. Our organizer recruits and manages volunteers who knock on doors, make phone calls and talk with voters about Dan?s message of positive change. We are excited to be able to support the Seals? campaign, but we can?t do it alone. We need to raise $2,500 to keep our organizer on the ground through Dan's primary. Help Keep Our Organizer on the Ground in Dan?s District In 2006, Dan was the winner of 21st Century Democrats' Peoples Choice Candidate Challenge. Dan was able to garner over 47% of the vote even as he was outspent by his opponent nearly 2 to 1. This year, 21st Century Democrats is committed to ensuring that Dan has all the resources he needs to win the election and give the people of Illinois? 10th district a Congressman who will value their needs above the wishes of George W. Bush. Dan Seals is a strong progressive leader who will work to restore the American Dream. He is committed to building an economy that provides genuine opportunity for all workers, a health care system that is affordable for all people, a public education system that serves all students, and a society that protects its natural environment. 21st Century Democrats is honored to be working with the Seals? campaign and we hope that you will join us as we fight to elect Dan in 2008. For the President, this isn't just about letting his friends at AT&T and Verizon off the hook. He knows this is the American people's last chance to hold the Bush administration accountable for their warrantless wiretapping of innocent Americans. The key vote is scheduled for late Monday afternoon and the count is down to the wire. We need 41 Senators to stand up to President Bush and right now we have only 36. Senators Clinton and Obama are the missing votes. If Senator Clinton or Obama stands up and leads from the floor of the U.S. Senate and calls upon the 8 senators that have endorsed their campaigns to stand with them, we'll have the votes we need and the American people will win. Democracy for America will not stay silent and hope our Presidential candidates will lead. We demand it. That's why we're running this ad in the New York Times on Monday. Grassroots action forced the Senate to stop telecom immunity from passing. Earlier today, DFA members made over 1,000 calls an hour to our Senators. And they heard our voices loud and clear. Tonight I'll be watching President Bush give his final State of the Union. As usual, he will be fear-mongering and pushing his radical agenda on the American people. Thanks to your work today, we flipped the vote and forced Senate Democrats to have a backbone. Jim Share this e-mail. Tell-a-friend!
