Dear John ,
Thank you so much.? Once again committed donors like you have
responded in a big way and helped us reach our April fundraising goal.?
Another successful month brings us one step closer to victory in November.
I wanted you to see how your donations are contributing directly to our
success, so I'm sending you a video recorded at a recent press briefing in
Washington where I lay it out race-by-race.? I hope you like it.
Click here to watch the video.
With just six months to Election Day, now is an absolutely critical time to
show our Senate candidates that we'll be there when the Republican attack
ads start flying.? We are all so grateful to know we can count on your

This is not an official Davis Democratic Club (DDC) function, but the Club
is chartered to help elect Democrats to public office. Lois Wolk is one of
the club's staunches supporters. She has not missed a single DDC Ice Cream
Socials at the home of Jerry Kaneko. Jerry Kaneko and the DDC both thank
her for her continued physical support of this event. This last year, at
this event in 2007, Lois honored DDC Treasurer Betty Weir with an Assembly
Resolution in observance of Betty's 92nd Birthay and her 57 years of service
to the Davis Democratic Club and the community of Davis.
On a personal note, Colleen would be a wonderful person to carpool with.
Please do not hesitate to call her if you are driving and need passengers or
do not want to drive down to Stockton or need a ride to this event. Lois
Wolk only hires the nicest people that are able to get work done; one of
Lois' secrets of her success!
All candidates that are club members can submit their announcements to this
list. Please telephone 848-8634 to let me know to look for your e-mail to post.

Dear Davis Democratic Club Members,
On Thursday, May 29th, there will be DDC General Meeting at Lamppost Pizza.
Lamppost is at 1260 Lake Blvd in West Davis. Visit their web site at
http://lamppostpizza.com/davis/ They have special coupons that will save
money for this event at their web site.
The program is:
6 to 7Pm Social Hour
7 to 8Pm Speakers
8 to 9Pm Steve Ybarra
The theme of this General Meeting is Party Unity. The May General Meeting
Chair is once again, Lyle Smith.
====================
The Champagne Brunch is coming in June. As soon as a date is set, I will
let you know. The reason for the floating date is that the club was trying
to get Howard Dean and now it appears that they are trying to get Jerry
Brown. Whoever it is, come for the excellent food provided by the DDC
Board. The event is named after the Champagne and Orange Juice that flows
at this event. There has been quiche, danishes and finger food. I always
bring the strawberries!
====================
The Fourth of July Booth is coming for the DDC. Co-Chairs are Bill Ritter,
Mike Syvanen, and Carl Schmid. We will be at the Park from 4:30 until the
fireworks selling bumper stickers and campaign buttons and distributing
campaign information. Expect to see materials from the Presidential
election, the 8th Assembly race, from Lois Wolk's state senate campaign, and
Mike Thompsons re-election.
We may have a bake sale, but someone has to organize that better this year
for that to work. If you want to volunteer for this job, please contact
Arun Sen at 756-7093
====================
The Annual Ice Cream Social at Jerry and Teresa Kaneko's Home
The Soap Box will once again be open on August 21st. This is our Popular
August Club Event. More will be forth-coming as this event gets closer.

We will be having September and October Club General Meetings, (like the
annual barbecue), but nothing is definite at this time. There will also be
an election day celebration after the polls have closed in November.
====================
The Annual Holiday Party, First Friday of December, December 5th, 2008.
We are having this event at the IOOF Hall on Second Street in Downtown
Davis. President Arun Sen plans to make this a huge event, inviting outside
speakers and performers to entertain and bring holiday cheer. Of course,
there is our annual holiday raffle and good food provided by the DDC Board.

The Yolo County Democratic Central Committee is in the process of
putting together a powerful organization for the November 4 Presidential
campaign. We're not messing around this year. If you are interested in
taking an active role in a highly organized, successful push for the
Democratic candidates up and down the slate, please come join us. There
are many volunteer jobs available, from voter registration collectors to
neighborhood leaders and fund raisers to leadership positions.
We need you!
We'll use your energy well. We are highly organized and deadly serious
this year. There is too much at stake. Together, we can create a grass
roots tidal wave in Yolo County. Yes, Yolo County trends blue anyway.
But with a tidal wave here, we can counter red-red Orange County, Placer
County, and other backward parts of our state. We can have a huge
impact.

Subject: You still have time to speak up for change
Gov. Schwarzenegger
released his revised budget this week. The bad news is that our budget
crisis has worsened. But even worse are the Republicans' proposed solutions.
They still want to cut $4.3 billion from K-12 education. They still want to
cut $1.1 from university funding. They still want to cut $2.6 billion from
health and human services programs.
And if that isn't bad enough, they've come up with some new cuts.
Now they want to take Supplemental Security Income benefits from our
seniors and disabled. That's right. They call it ?Intercepting federal SSI
funds sent from Washington intended for the benefit of aged and disabled
Californians.? We call it stealing from the poor.
For too long Republicans have refused to raise taxes on their corporate
cronies. Now they want to steal money from California's seniors and disabled
to fund sales tax loopholes for yacht owners and to keep big oil companies
from having to pay their fair share of taxes.
This summer, we need to tell California Republicans that enough is enough.
We need to change the script and stop balancing our budgets on the backs of
our weakest citizens. We need to tell the Republicans that we are better
than that. That's where you can help. You still have time to enter the
Summer of Change video contest. Shoot a 30-second video with your message
about what's at stake in this year's budget fight. Submit it by May 18,
2008, and your video could be aired on television.
Tell us
about what's important to you. Tell us why you think that providing a decent
education for our kids is more important than giving tax breaks to oil
companies. Tell us why you think it's wrong to steal Supplemental Security
Income benefits from California's seniors and disabled to fund a yacht tax
loophole.
This summer, we plan to change business as usual. Be a part of that change.
Sincerely,
Sen. Art Torres (Ret.)
Chairman For full details, go to our website at www.SummerOfChange08.com.
Then get busy working on your video entry. The deadline for the Summer of
Change video contest is this Sunday, May 18, 2008.

Greetings All,
Our current newsletter editor is leaving the post in anticipation of June
3rd's results.
We are looking for someone to replace her. One of the perks is that you get
your computer loaded up with software for newsletter production that is
owned by the club! This is worth hundreds of dollars! If you need to learn
the programs, I am sure you can ask the board to provide books or money for
books for you to learn the software. If you already know Microsoft
Publisher or Adobe Pagemaker, you are already ahead of the game.
Contact Arun Sen at bubusen at hotmail.com or telephone him at 756-7093
Software installation coordination can be done through G Richard Yamagata at
848-8634

General Meeting for Party Unity on May 29th!
Message-ID: <200805200042.m4K0gMZ5094417@out.afes.com>
Dear Davis Democratic Club Members,
Just a note to club members: if you get to Lamppost Pizza BEFORE 6pm and
order, you can take advantage of their special "Happy Hour" pricing. There
are some great pricing deals. Visit their web site at
http://yvm.net/vme/lamppost/lampspec.html Print out the page and take it in
to be sure to get the pricing. I apologize. I feel like I am advertising,
but this is being sent out so that the club members can take advantage of
our having the meeting at Lamppost Pizza. Great food at a lower price
should be something that everyone can appreciate. I thank Lyle Smith for
choosing the location and I thank Jim Matthews for initiating the special
pricing in time for the DDC General Meeting. For the young College Dems,
please only order Beer if you are of legal age!
-------------------
On Thursday, May 29th, there will be DDC General Meeting at Lamppost Pizza.
Lamppost is at 1260 Lake Blvd in West Davis. Visit their web site at
http://lamppostpizza.com/davis/ They have special coupons that will save
money for this event at their web site at
http://yvm.net/vme/lamppost/lampspec.html
The program is:
5 to 6PM No Host Happy Hour
6 to 7Pm Social Hour
7 to 8Pm Speakers
8 to 9Pm Steve Ybarra
The theme of this General Meeting is Party Unity. The May General Meeting
Chair is once again, Lyle Smith.
====================
====================
Arun Sen at 756-7093
====================
The Annual Ice Cream Social at Jerry and Teresa Kaneko's Home
The Soap Box will once again be open on August 21st. This is our Popular
August Club Event. More will be forth-coming as this event gets closer.
====================
We will be having September and October Club General Meetings, (like the
annual barbecue), but nothing is definite at this time. There will also be
an election day celebration after the polls have closed in November.
====================
The Annual Holiday Party, First Friday of December, December 5th, 2008.
The place that this meeting is being held is being reconsidered. President
Arun Sen plans to make this a huge event, inviting outside speakers and
performers to entertain and bring holiday cheer. Of course, there is our
annual holiday raffle and good food provided by the DDC Board.

Subject: [Davis Democrats] Reminder This Thursday, 1 Day Reminder,
General Meeting for Party Unity on May 29th!
Message-ID: <200805280214.m4S2EJrD045697@mail.afes.com>
Dear Davis Democratic Club Members,
I apologize for so many e-mails about this event. The Board wants to make
sure that people attend this general meeting. This meeting is about "Party
Unity" and we need a lot of that to win back the White House. The stated
goal of the Davis Democratic Club and our campaign headquarters is to get
out the vote enough to counteract the Republican Vote in Orange County for
McCain.
-------------------
Just a note to club members: if you get to Lamppost Pizza BEFORE 6pm and
order, you can take advantage of their special "Happy Hour" pricing. There
are some great pricing deals. Visit their web site at
http://yvm.net/vme/lamppost/lampspec.html Print out the page and take it in
to be sure to get the pricing. I apologize. I feel like I am advertising,
but this is being sent out so that the club members can take advantage of
our having the meeting at Lamppost Pizza. Great food at a lower price
should be something that everyone can appreciate. I thank Lyle Smith for
choosing the location and I thank Jim Matthews for initiating the special
pricing in time for the DDC General Meeting. For the young College Dems,
please only order Beer if you are of legal age!
-------------------
On Thursday, May 29th, there will be DDC General Meeting at Lamppost Pizza.
Lamppost is at 1260 Lake Blvd in West Davis. Visit their web site at
http://lamppostpizza.com/davis/ They have special coupons that will save
money for this event at their web site at
http://yvm.net/vme/lamppost/lampspec.html
The program is:
5 to 6PM No Host Happy Hour
6 to 7Pm Social Hour
7 to 8Pm Speakers
8 to 9Pm Steve Ybarra
The theme of this General Meeting is Party Unity. The May General Meeting
Chair is once again, Lyle Smith.
====================
The Champagne Brunch is coming in June. The date is June 29th, Sunday and
the time is 11AM to 2PM. The place is the home of Bill Julian -- more
details are coming. Please look for them. The Keynote speaker has yet to
be determined. Whoever it is, come for the excellent food provided by the
DDC Board. The event is named after the Champagne and Orange Juice that
flows at this event. There has been quiche, danishes and finger food. I
always bring the strawberries!
====================
If you want to volunteer for this job, Bake Sale
Coordinator, please contact Arun Sen at 756-7093
====================
The Annual Ice Cream Social at Jerry and Teresa Kaneko's Home
The Soap Box will once again be open on August 21st. This is our Popular
August Club Event. More will be forth-coming as this event gets closer.
====================
We will be having September and October Club General Meetings, (like the
annual barbecue), but nothing is definite at this time. There will also be
an election day celebration after the polls have closed in November.
====================
====================
Thank you for your attention,
Richard

Subject: [Davis Democrats] Campaign Kickoff Thursday Night June 5,
Volunteer NOW for the November Election

Campaign Kickoff Thursday Night June 5
Volunteer NOW for the November Election
Yolo County Democrats in coordination with your Davis Democratic Club
are kicking off the campaign for the November election today, yes, right
now today, to change America. Working through your local organizations,
you and your friends have the opportunity to be part of this exciting,
important election; your participation is needed and greatly welcomed.
One unusual aspect of this coordinated effort is the key word,
"organizing." Will Rogers famously quipped, "I am not a member of an
organized political party. I am a Democrat." You will be pleased to
know that all Yolo Democrats intend to be highly organized well before
November, which is the reason that we ask you to consider the
opportunities and volunteer now.
There are many things to be done and certainly much for you to
contribute. Naturally, individual assi gnments will be tailored to your
skills, inclinations and time constraints. Some possibilities include
voter registration, canvassing by phone or in person, office work, mass
mailings, data management and analysis. To learn more about these
options join us (and bring your friends) for exciting fun: The campaign
kickoff will be held June 5, Thursday evening, (7:00 to 9:00pm) at the
Oddfellows Hall (415 2nd St., Davis).
We look forward to seeing you there!

Subject: [Davis Democrats] Addresses Needed for Open Election Evening Parties
Message-ID: <200805312237.m4VMb7bH043110@mail.afes.com>
Greetings All Polictical Campaigns,
I need the Who, Where and When for Election Night Parties. The Davis
Democratic Club is not meeting at any place in particular and we are asking
members to attend their favorite candidates parties, representing themselves
and the club at these events.
The Davis Democratic Club Board has instructed me to do this task of
compiling and sending out an e-mail about election night festivities. I
have received private invitations to some of these events, which want people
to RSVP, so that they know how many people to expect. In view of this, I am
not going to publish any information for election night parties at any given
location, unless I hear from the respective campaigns or hosts of parties.
If your campaign is having an open election night party or event for
supporters that are Davis Democratic Club members, please send the
information as to where the party is and when the party is and who to
contact if they have problems reaching the party location or if people need
to RSVP. I hope to have a preliminary list published on Monday to this
listserve.
Take care,
Richard
