THE URGENT COLUMN

URGENT NEED FOR PRECINCT WALKERS
Yolo United is in great need of precinct walkers for West Sacramento,
Woodland, and even Davis. For this and other great volunteer
opportunities, please call the Davis headquarters and ask for Louise
Hendrickson at 530-231-5746.

NEW EVENT JUST ADDED – WALK WOODLAND PRECINCTS THIS SATURDAY
On Saturday, October 18th, at 10 a.m. there will be a quick rally at the
Woodland headquarters before walking precincts.

9:30 Bagels & Coffee supplied by Yolo United
10:00 Rally with special guest Lois Wolk and Mariko Yamada
10:30 Walk training and precinct assignments
11 – 2 Walk precincts
2 pm Back to the headquarters for late lunch

NEW EVENT JUST ADDED – WALK OLIVE DRIVE AND APARTMENTS THIS WEEKEND TO
REGISTER VOTER AND DISTRIBUTE DOORHANGERS
There are ten out of 105 precincts in Davis that have not been walked.
These all have high percentages of apartments and many infrequent or
unregistered voters, our highest priority targets. We want to walk these
before voter registration ends at 5 p.m. on October 20th. If you have an
hour and can walk and knock on doors any time during the day before the
late afternoon on Monday, please come by the Davis headquarters to pick
up a walking list and materials and get a quick training. It is a
rewarding experience to help register voters and distribute the slate
card that encourages voters to support No on 8, No on 4, Yes on W and
vote on other propositions.

VOTER REG DEADLINE IS MONDAY, 10/20 - CAN YOU HELP TO REGISTER VOTERS?
The deadline to register to vote for the November 4th election is
Monday, October 20th. We need your help for a major push throughout the
Yolo County to register as many Democrats as possible between now and
October 20th. You can register voters at events, in front of stores and
door to door.

If you can help in this effort, any day between now and the 20th, please
call the Davis Headquarters at (530) 231-5746 and talk to Brian Micek
at bmicek at micekpublicaffairs.com or email Bob Schelen slobadbobs at aol.com.

WE NEED YOUR HELP ON CAMPUS! HELP REGISTER STUDENTS – DEADLINE MONDAY
UCD students have been overwhelmed with their voter registration efforts
on campus. The UCD effort has brought in 2,500 new registrations, but it
needs more volunteers to register the goal of 5,000 voters. You can help
change that! Show up at the Students for Obama table at the MU at UC
Davis between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. this week and grab a clipboard. If you
need training, we will do training on the spot. For more information,
please contact Ellie Fox at eljfox at gmail.com.

CAMPAIGN NEWS & ACTIVITIES:

SEND A UC DAVIS STUDENT TO COLORADO FOR ELECTION WEEK!
Yolo United has covered the travel expenses of sending over 80 college
students to Reno for weekend canvassing trips, and we will continue to
do so through Election Day. However, the Obama campaign needs our help
getting UC Davis students to Colorado for a get-out-the-vote push
starting on the 31st. We plan to send 10 UCD students to Denver for
election week, and they need your help getting there. If you would be
willing to purchase a plane ticket or donate frequent flier miles to
help our students get to Colorado, please email Brian Micek at
bmicek at micekpublicaffairs.com.
