A COUNTY SUPERVISOR PROGRESS REPORT Jim is putting full energy into trying to keep our bypass from being flooded (as the state wants to do) and that this flooding will require Davis residents to buy flood insurance, expose us to the risk of actual flooding, and wipe out the rice industry that is important to our ag economy. In addition he has been fighting to keep mental health funding and public safety funding from being decimated. All of these issues really do have an impact on Davis residents and our quality of life. ===================== THE EVENT Jim Provenza's annual ITALIAN CARNEVALE EVENT will be held on Sunday, June 27 from 6:00-8:00 pm in the OddFellows Hall at 415 Second Street in Davis. Please come and share good, conversation, and fun at Supervisor Provenza's Event. The cost is $30.00 general admission, and $20.00 for seniors and students. On the economy, Republicans fight for Big Banks. And now, on our Gulf Coast, Republicans defend the big polluters who made the mess. No special interest is beyond special treatment. We're only five months away from a crucial election, and the choice couldn't be clearer. Republicans think holding polluters accountable for this disaster is a "shakedown." Democrats think handing corporations a free pass is simply wrong. Taxpayers, not profit margins, need to come first. The map is shifting quickly, and races across the country are heating up. What you do NOW will make the difference for the DSCC as they fight back against GOP attacks. I need you to support the DSCC today. Every dollar you give strengthens the Democrats' position. And we need all the strength we can get to counter the Republican corporate advantage. Click here to make a donation of $100, $150 or more to the DSCC. The DSCC must raise $2,622,337 by June 30 to help fight the corporate-Republican complex. Every dollar you give will be matched, doubling its impact. Republicans - aided by Karl Rove's American Crossroads group and corporate benefactors - have chosen their targets. They're coming after Barbara Boxer, Patty Murray and Russ Feingold - and the seats formerly held by President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. If we lose these Democratic votes, the Republican obstruction we fight every day in the Senate will look like child's play. They're already trying to kill legislation that would hold the polluters fully accountable for the spill in the Gulf and change America's energy future. With a few more votes, they can derail every piece of President Obama's agenda. His re-election could be in jeopardy. And our country will pay the price. We can't let them. We've come too far - and have too much left to do - to allow right-wing Republicans to hand our democracy over to Big Business. It's time to counter their disdain toward progress with our own determination. What we do now will make all the difference come November. He's right: Democrats simply can't let this new breed of Republican extremists run rampant within the halls of Congress. Click here to make a donation of $100, $150 or more to the DSCC. The DSCC needs to raise $194,686 by Sunday. Every dollar you give will be matched and will go twice as far toward beating Republicans in November! Thanks for all you do to help Democrats win. -J.B. Poersch From: Sen. Bernie Sanders Sent: Thu 6/24/2010 11:53 AM To: J.B. Poersch Subject: GOP comeback? Dear J.B., Why is the longest-serving Independent in congressional history writing to you on behalf of Democrats? Like you, I'm angry. I'm frustrated. And I want action. I've had my differences with both sides of the aisle, but I have never seen tactics as dangerous as the ones Republicans are using. Republicans have said "No" to the very changes Americans elected President Obama to make. No to health care reform. Jobs. Clean energy. Regulations so big banks can't wreck our economy and get rich in the process. They're saying "No" for one explicit reason - to make President Obama fail. That's why I'm asking you to support the DSCC. The DSCC has the skills and experience to combat the Republican political machine and right-wing lies. If you give today, your gift will be matched, doubling your impact. Even $5 today will make a big difference in November! Click here to make a donation of $100, $150 or more to the DSCC. The DSCC must raise $300,000 by the end of the week to fight obstructionist Republicans. Meeting this goal is so important that every dollar you give will be matched, doubling its impact. It's a plain and simple political strategy. Republicans think that if they can make Obama fail, they will energize their base, whip up the Tea Partiers like Rand Paul in Kentucky, prey on the fear and frustration of the American people - and pick up seats in November. They even have a name for it, the "Republican Comeback." That strategy, my friends, must be stopped. We cannot go back to the Bush-Cheney policies, which caused many of the crises we currently face. Republicans are furiously raising money, and they'll have help. The largest U.S. business lobby for insurance companies and big corporations is planning to spend $50 million to elect "big business" candidates. And the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision allows corporations to give as much money as they want in support of candidates. Candidates who stand up to corporate influence risk their voices being drowned out by the big dollars of special interests. In many states, it will all come down to critical early funding for the advertising, polling and extensive grassroots mobilization that it takes to defeat the GOP machine. It's what the DSCC does best, but it can't do it without your help. Click here to make a donation of $100, $150 or more to the DSCC. The DSCC must raise $300,000 by the end of the week to fight obstructionist Republicans. Meeting this goal is so important that every dollar you give will be matched, doubling its impact. This is no time to quit. It's time to seize the moment, win in November and keep our country moving forward. With your help, I know we will succeed. ? Sincerely, Sen.
