From jac07 at dcn.org Fri Mar 2 10:34:46 2012 From: jac07 at dcn.org (John Chendo) Date: Fri, 02 Mar 2012 10:34:46 -0800 Subject: [Davis Democrats] Voluntary action opportunity: FINAL PUSH-vote YES on C-Save LOCAL JOBS in DAVIS SCHOOLS-deadline March 6 In-Reply-To: Message-ID: Dear Dems: The Davis Democratic Club endorses Yes on Measure C. If Measure C does not get 2/3 of the votes cast, the Davis School Board has approved the provisional layoff of 86.7 FULL-TIME equivalent positions. Your vote can make the difference in saving these local jobs in our Davis schools. As of Thursday this week, only 1/3 of registered voters have voted. In other words, if 1/9 of the registered voters so far have voted No , then so far we are losing those jobs. YOUR VOTE IS NEEDED TO MAKE THE DIFFERENCE before the DEADLINE Tuesday, 8pm, March 6. Because even our U.S. Postal Mail service is being impacted by imprudent republican budget cuts, you are advised to secure your ballot by personally depositing your ballot in the specially marked secure drop box at the Yolo County (Davis Branch) Library, 315 East 14 St., Davis. Or go to the Yolo County Elections Office, Yolo County Elections Office, 625 Court Street, Room B-05, Woodland (just west of the courthouse, downstairs atrium), 530-666-8133. If you can?t get to either of these 2 places before Tuesday 8pm, then mail your ballot immediately to Yolo County Elections Dept., P.O.Box 1820, Woodland, Ca. 95776-9910, to be received hopefully by Tuesday, March 6. If you can?t find your ballot, phone the Elections Office 530-666-8133. If you would like to phone others to get out the vote, make sure to read Martha Beetley?s note below about her phone banking schedule this weekend. Your vote will help the teachers, the children, and your neighbors keep their jobs, for our civilization. P.S. If for no one else, do it for Michelangelo (his birthday is March 6). Cheers, John C. Former U.S. Senator, Governor, and wounded Viet Nam Veteran Bob Kerrey is running for his old Senate seat from Nebraska, hopefully to replace retiring Democratic U.S. Senator Ben Nelson. And moderate Republican U.S. Senator from Maine, Olympia Snowe, is retiring. Our U.S. Senate majority is a crucial bulwark against bad legislation coming through the Tea Party-mad House. ------ Forwarded Message From: Karen Finney Reply-To: Date: Mon, 26 Mar 2012 09:03:37 -0400 (EDT) To: John Chendo Subject: Glimpse I know if feels like every election people are talking about how high the stakes are -- however -- after more than 20 years working as a democratic strategist I can honestly say this time the stakes are higher than ever. John , I know it feels like every election, people are talking about how high the stakes are. However -- after more than 20 years working as a Democratic strategist, I can honestly say this time the stakes are higher than ever. You've seen the Republican agenda at work -- trying to take away basic health care for women, Medicare as we know it away from our seniors and even food aid away from our kids! And that's just the beginning of the changes they want to make to the safety net.? We've already gotten a glimpse of the carpet bombing of ugly tricks -- disgusting ads, whisper campaigns and mailers full of lies --? yet to come from Karl Rove and Company. They have and are prepared to spend tons of cash -- whatever it takes -- to take down President Obama and flip the four Senate seats they need to take control. We tried it their way -- with disastrous consequences. We've got to keep fighting their "you're on your own" mentality and restore American values of fundamental fairness. The DSCC?s end-of-quarter FEC deadline is only 6 days away. They?re still $690,000 short. This is the absolute minimum we need to go toe-to-toe with the right-wing SuperPACs. Click here to give an immediate $25 or $50 to the DSCC. They have only 6 days left to raise the $690,000 needed to go toe-to-toe with Karl Rove! Because they know they can't win on their failed ideas, the GOP is trying to use dirty tactics -- like making it harder for people to vote in numerous states across the country.? They've targeted older people, younger people and people of color -- directly attacking our democracy and the right of every American to have their say in the election. We are not going to let them get away with it. One of the most important things you can do is to support the DSCC. We know it?s going to take a massive voter outreach plan to counter them, and that?s just one part of what the DSCC does. When Republicans attack and smear us in ads, the DSCC is right there to push back with the truth. When Republicans lie about our Democratic candidates, the DSCC knows about it and fights back. When we work together, Karl Rove is no match for the Democratic grassroots. Will you please join me in supporting the DSCC with a gift of $25 or $50? There are only 6 days left until their crucial end-of-quarter FEC deadline, and they?re still $690,000 short. With the stakes this high, we can?t afford to wait for the full Karl Rove effect. Let?s hit this FEC goal, defend President Obama and our Democratic Senate, and stop the Republican assault on our American values. That's what President Obama delivers every day: cutting taxes on working families, stepping in to save the auto industry, standing up for Social Security. Sadly, he's up against opponents who have no interest in helping do the hard work. They'd rather divide America than lead it. Just look at what's happening now -- are we really supposed to believe that women's rights are getting in the way of job creation? But these divide-and-conquer tactics have won them elections before, and if we're going to protect Democrats in 2012, we need to fight back before it's too late. The DSCC is fighting back, supporting President Obama and defending the Democratic Senate.? But with just a few hours left to go before a big deadline, they?re $260,000 short of their goal ? will you click here right now and make a $25 or $50 contribution? We?ve got a tough fight on our hands. In addition to re-electing President Obama, Democrats have to defend 23 Senate seats ? Republicans only have to win four to take the majority.? And the special interests are going to come at us with every nasty trick in the book, spending as much as $500 million to beat President Obama and take the Senate. But they don?t get the final say in this election. You do. Ninety percent of the DSCC?s contributions come from individual Democrats like you. And by taking action at this critical moment, with the White House and the Senate up for grabs and only 24 hours left until the deadline , you can make a real difference in the direction this country takes. If we aren?t ready to fight back, President Obama and the Democratic majority could be finished. But Democrats aren?t afraid of a tough fight when the fate of the middle class is on the line. I remember how hard we all fought to win the Senate in 2006, take the White House in 2008, and stand up to the Tea Party in 2010. Without fired-up Democrats, we?d still have insurance companies in charge of our health care. Our auto industry would be done for. Medicare and Social Security would be gone. And we wouldn?t have the Democratic Senate firewall that is currently keeping these anti-woman policies from becoming law. Democrats like you and me are in this to win the tough fights. So I know we can do this. 24 hours, $260,000 to raise to help the DSCC defend President Obama and the Democratic Senate. Now?s the time to act. Thanks for doing what Democrats do best ? fighting hard for working Americans.
