> We need you. No agreement to reopen the government or increase the debt ceiling is imminent, yet the clock is still ticking dangerously close to the time that our government will default on our debts. The government remains closed, putting more working families in jeopardy daily. We need to ensure that we end this crisis and that no middle-class sustaining policies, like Social Security or Medicare get slashed in the process. There is too much on the line for America’s families. Creating crises to extort extreme demands is not how democracy works. Please keep making calls.

>
> Tell your Representative:
>
> Your name and where you’re from.
> Pass a clean continuing resolution.
> Pass a debt ceiling increase to make sure the faith in the U.S. government is upheld.
> Make sure to share this information and get other members to call as well.
>
> When you make your calls, remember the Steelworkers that we told you about on Monday. In Courtland, Alabama, over 1,000 members recently found out that their paper mill would be closing. They’ve filed for trade adjustment assistance (TAA). When workers lose their jobs to unfair trade, TAA can provide critical job retraining and relocation services as well as other federal benefits. Because of the shutdown, their application is in limbo. But, it doesn’t stop there. When a job ends, it eventually means losing healthcare benefits. Because of the Washington hostage-taking, new options for coverage through the Affordable Care Act that can benefit these members are being threatened.
>
> Let’s help these Steelworkers and so many others who are feeling the impacts of these made up crises. Please make your call today!
>
> Have a problem when you’re calling? This is the first time we’re rolling out our new hotline. If you run across an issue or error, let us know and we’ll send you a button for your effort.
