FREE to the public. Place: VARSITY THEATER, 616 Second St. Time: 11am-1230pm. Ms. Dana Vickers Shelly, former deputy press secretary to U.S. Dept. of Commerce Secretary Ron Brown in the Bill Clinton cabinet, now director of public affairs for the Southern Poverty Law Center based in Montgomery, Alabama, will deliver the keynote speech on "Educational Access and Equal Opportunity." Following that , the Davis Freedom Singers and Dick Holdstock, former Davis City Councilman, will play a musical interlude of classic human rights songs. Then the singers will lead any who wish to walk in our traditional city parade along downtown Davis streets. b) A benefit dinner-play will be held, 530pm-7pm, in the St. James Parish Social Hall, 1275 B St. Ticket price of fifty dollars will go to the local Martin Luther King Scholarship Fund (MLKSF) for Yolo County African-American students accepted into college who need financial assistance. Mr. Felix Justice, a stage actor from Danny Glover's workshop, will present a one-person dramatic monologue portraying vignettes from Dr. King's eloquence, prophecy, and life experience. In his touring around the country, Felix Justice, from South Carolina, has performed in more than a hundred college towns. Ms. Mary Anne Kirsch of Davis will be honored with this year's Nelson Mandela Award.
