Welcome to the DHS band program or, in the case of many, welcome back after what I hope was a great Summer break. I’m excited to get the year rolling and look forward to seeing everyone as we approach our new school year.</div>

Last June, we ended the year with a very successful trip to New York City and performed in the world-renowned Carnegie Hall. While this is a once in every three years’ event, this year has many new and exciting events planned for the band students. </div>

Symphonic Band students have their first concert on November 14<sup>th </sup>titled, “Made in California.” This concert will feature at least one world premiere (possibly two!) as well as the premiere of the newest DJUSD ensemble, the High School Mariachi Ensemble
(the name is still being worked out). This band will also have additional concerts in December, March, and May.</div>

The Jazz Band students will have several festivals they will attend, as well as home concerts in December & May. The Band Boosters have also begun planning a possible trip to the French Quarter Jazz Festival in New Orleans in April, 2019.</div>

Both the Concert and Symphonic Bands will be heading to Los Angeles for a trip to UCLA and Disneyland, including a performance in the park and a studio recording session with Disney recording artists in March 2019. This is a wonderful trip!</div>
