Greetings Band Parents,

Just a quick note to let you know about one neat thing the bands are doing on Monday of the San Diego trip.
They will be going to University of San Diego, where they will be meeting up with a variety of music Masters for instructional sessions.

During the 1st hour:
The Jazz Band will be playing on stage first, working with the Jazz Master Adam Johnson, an energetic (money making) jazz performer and improvisationalist.
While the Jazz Band is playing the Concert band will be splitting up into sections to work on a chart.
Brass (High/Low) will work with Timothy Smith, the acting Principal of Trombone of the San Diego Symphony.
Percussion will work with Jason Ginter, the Principal of Percussion, San Diego Symphony
Clarinets, Oboe, Bassoon will work with Terri Tunnicliff, the Second Clarinet, San Diego Symphony
Flutes will work with Jane Masur, a well known high level flute instructor
Saxophones will work with Chief Warrant Officer Edward Hayes, Director and Officer of the "Third Marine Aircraft Wing Band" in San Diego
The Symphonic Band will enjoy the Jazz Band stage session.

During the 2nd hour:
The Concert Band will take the stage and work with Dr. Angela Yeung, the Director of Music, University of San Diego
The Symphonic Band will split up into sections as described above to work on their assigned piece.
The Jazz Band will join the symphonic band masters sessions where it makes sense. The remaining members will enjoy the Concert Band's stage session.

During the 3rd hour:
The Symphonic Band (with appropriate Jazz Band members) will take the stage and work on their piece as a group with Dr. Yeung.
The Concert Band will take a seat and enjoy the Symphonic band's stage session.

All in all, the students will have a neat opportunity to work with some highly qualified musical masters. Should be fun.

Cheers,
~JAH
