Since it will take at least two weeks to have special order for the shirts and ties, I will need your input for your kid's sizes asap! First, please make sure your student look at their old shirts or another dress shirt in their closet and DON'T guess on their sizes. You don't want to waste time and money to reorder the shirts, besides, I don't think we can afford to make mistakes on the sizes due to the time constrain. The shirts come in collar/sleeve sizes (e.g. 15"/ 32-33"). Please email me back the information along with your student's name and telephone so that I can contact you if needed. This is a day filled with music, art and friends. The event is sponsored by John Natsoulas and the Downtown Davis Business Association and is a free event. The way our musicians and the Band Boosters receive funding is through the sale of water and raffle tickets. For us to do well it is essential that we have cool items to raffle. Please, help by contacting me about items that you may have to donate for the raffle. We are looking for small and big items. We really could use a donation of a weekend at Lake Tahoe or perhaps a time share or airline tickets. If you would be willing to contact local businesses to ask for their support and/or for raffle items please, contact me so we can work together. The more involvement we have the more our band students and band program will benefit. We also need to encourage as many of our friends and colleagues and families to attend the Festival. Your musician will have access to flyers about the Festival that can be picked up from Mr. Lange at school. If every parent posted a flyer at work, at the sports club or visible place this would help spread the word. Students will also have an afternoon to help posters in the downtown businesses. We have three Saturdays, September 26th, October 3rd and October 10th arranged for our students to sell raffle tickets and perform at the Rotary Stage close to the carousel. The hours that students work are credited to their account which is used to pay for this year's Band Trip. Your help in supporting these pre-Festival events will benefit all of our bands. Please, contact me at 750-7824 or at desdhunt at comcast.net. Date: Wed 9/16/09 Time: 7:30 - 9:00 pm Location: DHS Band Room For the new parents, if you park in the parking lot between the high school and the Veteran's Memorial, the performing arts building (IPAB) is located at the end near the tennis courts. To the left of the IPAB is the band room. You should see a sign-in table there as you arrive. Please join us for our 1st meeting of the year. There are many band activities that our high school students will be involved in during the year. Come get the details of how the year is going to unfold for the Concert, Symphonic & Jazz Bands. The band officers have been working over the summer on the early activities of the year, and preparing for the many events. And there is still much to do. There are fantastic concerts, fundraising events, the Big Spring Band Trip, and more. Attached are the June Band Booster mtg minutes. Please look over them, we will vote to approve these during the meeting. We are looking forward to seeing all of you this Wednesday. If you were not able to attend, check out the meeting minutes when they are published. Also, please take a look at the two attached pdf files. The first one (Volunteer Signup Master0910.pdf) is a description of the volunteer positions that are needed to keep things running. Last year we had over 87% participation of families, and the vast majority of them were doing multiple things (ie: baking for a concert, setup for Coconut Grove, sign-ins for Play-A-Thon). Each takes a very little time, but with everyone helping, it effectively spreads the load. After all, it's all for our kids. :) The second file (DHS BAND BOOSTERS-Signups-TurnIn.pdf) is the turn in sheet. Once you decide how you can help, please return the form to me. You have several options to return the form. 1. you can mail it back, with the address on the form. 2. you can scan it in and email it back 3. or you can fax it back at 753-9403. Please take a few minutes and sign up to do a couple of small things. We are also looking for several coordinator positions and assistant coordinator positions. There will take a bit more time and effort, but are well worth it. Once your kids are seniors, you'll wish you got involved sooner. So start now. This is a free event on Saturday, October 10th in front of Borders and the Natsoulus Art Gallery. The Band Boosters and all band students make the event successful by volunteering. (Please refer to the previous Volunteer List that was sent out on Sunday, September 13th.) To raise funds, the Band Boosters put a raffle together for the day of the Festival. These items are raffled off between the many performances between 11:30 and 6:00. The only way that the Band Boosters receive financial benefit from the Festival is from the sale of the raffle tickets. The money from raffle tickets sold by your student prior to the Festival is credited directly to your student's travel account. To make raffle tickets attractive, we need awesome raffle items. I have already contacted 45 businesses. Times are tough and donations are few. There is no doubt that parents need to step up and help by donating attractive items that will help sell raffle tickets. To date from parents we have received a wonderful donation of a framed photograph from a renowned photographer, a week-end get away in a mountain cabin, gift certificates for The Artery, and the latest model of the I-pod touch. Please reply to her directly: Peauroi at comcast.net Thx, ~JAH Patwin Elementary School is looking for high school musicians who are interested in sharing their love of music with elementary school students. We would love to have high school students volunteer to help with the BRAVO music program. BRAVO is a music appreciation program that teaches children about composers, instruments and, rhythm patterns. The goals of the BRAVO program are to provide music appreciation, to develop music listening skills in children, to promote exposure to classical musical masterpieces and to guide children to recognize and experience music as a form of creative expression. Volunteers come to the classrooms six times during the school year to present 30 to 60 minute lessons, each lesson focusing on one classical composer. Student volunteers may share the year with other volunteers if they are unable to commit to the entire six-composer program. The timing of the in-class lessons is extremely flexible and can be catered to the volunteer's schedule, as long as the volunteer is available at some time during Patwin's school day. Training, curriculum and activity ideas are provided. Please contact Natalie Peauroi at Peauroi at comcast.net if you are interested in volunteering or would like more information. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... In the next 1-3 weeks, we will need to decide as a group if we are going to do a trip with Jazz Choir.? I have heard from a few of you about your thoughts about a trip this year.? Just so you know the major impetus to go this year include: 1.? Some of the Jazz Band students have not gone on a major trip and may not be able to go if we delay 2 years. 2.? The previous tradition has been to go on such a trip every 3 years and we would rather cycle the trip with Disneyland or San Diego trip years rather than Victoria trip.? The Victoria trip is next year. 3.? The Jazz Choir is interested in going this year. The major inpediments are: 1.? Bad economy for many of us. ? I still am looking for probably 2 parents to start meeting with Jazz Choir parents to do the following: 1.? Is it feasible to go this year? 2.? Where should we go? 3.? When should we go? Please email me if you are willing to help.? ? Thanks, Mike?Choy? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... We need parents to man the table between 9:00 to 12:30ish on the September 26th, October 3rd and on October 10th. We will provide the table, the flyers, postcards signs and musicians. But we need parents to help out. Your students have had the opportunity to sign up for these days in their class at school so please, check in with them to see if they have already selected an hour and date. It would be great if you could work with them. We were looking at one hour shifts at the Table. Please, email me or call desdhunt at comcast.net or 750-7824. Why are we doing this??? Because the Jazz Festival on Sat. October 10th which is a free event for the public brings a wide variety of musical groups to Davis and showcases our own Davis High School Jazz Band and combos. But the only way we raise money for the Concert, Symphonic and Jazz Bands is to have a raffle. As your student sells raffle tickets he or she not only promotes the Band Program, but earns money for their individual Band Trip Account which is handled by our treasurer. So it is a win win situation for you and your student. Bundles of Raffle tickets will be available for students at the Table on Saturday, September 26th at 9:00 a.m. Stephanie Hunt Band Booster Jazz Festival Chair -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... These items are raffled off between the many performances between 11:30 and 6:00. The only way that the Band Boosters receive financial benefit from the Festival is from the sale of the raffle tickets. The money from raffle tickets sold by your student prior to the Festival is credited directly to your student's travel account. Please contact Janet Soto Mukai at janetys at aol.com or 758-6353 to pick up raffle tickets for your student to sell. All monies and unsold raffle tickets (which will be sold on the day of the event) MUST BE RETURNED by October 7. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Quite a number of Concert Band students passed out flyers and sold the first raffle tickets. Thank you to Charles Alpers for helping out with the table and buying water for the Combo. Please, respond to Janet Soto's email about picking up your student's raffle tickets to sell before the Jazz Festival. There are a lot of awesome items to be raffled at the Jazz Festival on October 10th. These include a weekend retreat at a cabin at Serene Lake by Soda Springs, a beautiful photograph by Howard Chew, an iPod third generation, two $100 gift certificates to the Artery, a Senior or Family Portrait Session with Dan Jones Custom Photography, a three month membership at the Davis Athletic Club, three paintings from the Natsoulas Art Gallery, a hand made quilt, a case of delicious artisan old vine zinfandel from Amador County, vouchers to the River Cats, and gift certificates to many businesses such as Watermelon Music and Alphabet Moon. I plan to post a final list of items by Friday, October 2nd. If you have any items to donate or if you would like to help contact other businesses please, call me at 750-7824 so I can let you know which businesses have not yet been contacted. Assistance in this area will be greatly appreciated. Also, see the attached Festival Volunteer List for October 10th. There are still spots for you and your student. This time it will be at Save-Mart on Covell and Anderson from 11-3pm. It will be on the Anderson side of the Market so look for us. SAVE your dirty cars till then and support your kids in this BAND fundraiser. Again, the students are responsible to sign up for themselves. Please do not send me an email and ask me to sign students up as many people are. ( I only sign up parent volunteers of which I do need badly). There will be 25 slots for each shift and they are only to sign up for one shift. If they come late and have the 2nd shift, their shift could possibly have been given to someone else that was ready to work.. They need to be on time. I do believe this time the slots will go fast! Tell your student that it will be posted in 7th period tomorrow, Monday. to give Concert Band students a fair chance to sign up first this time. It will alternate each carwash and the time after, 6th period will get posted first next . My suggestion is to have them go right after school to sign up or first thing Tues. if they are in Symphonic. If parents want to let me know what shift they will volunteer after their child has signed up, then please tell your kids to get on top of it. Hours the student puts in helps to pay for their Spring Band trip. It's a FUN time and a win-win situation. Please parents donate a snack or water. At CVS, Monday and Tues., cases of water are $2.99 for Crystal Geyser. Jump on it and donate to the carwashes to keep them hydrated or for the following weekend lots of cases of water will be needed donated for the Natasoulas Jazz Festival. You parents, are the heart of this organization and this gives you the opportunity to be around and to help your students. You will probably get another reminder later in the week but the list is posted for students tomorrow. Thank you so much for helping out, Smiles, Theresa Lucas, carwash coordinator 757-1735 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... We need your input on the band trip, and the other areas filled out. If each of us does something small, it spreads the load nicely. So please, send in your inputs.
