Davis High School has been chosen by the Grammy Foundation (connected to the organization who gives out the professional music awards each year) to be a GRAMMY Signature School of 2011! This means that it was chosen as one of the top 5-6 high schools in the U.S. for its strong music program.

Although the award is directly to the DHS Music Department, the award really represents the dedication and talent at all levels that support the high school program.

DHS was chosen based on the number of students who participate in music, the breadth of the program, and its participation in events locally, regionally and statewide. After making an initial first round cut, the DHS Music Department was invited to submit recorded excerpt selections from its choirs, bands and orchestras to compare against other HS programs.

The DHS Music Dept. will receive a plaque, certificate, and a cash award. A formal presentation may be made at a May school board meeting.

This is the second time that DHS has received this award. The first time was in 2007.

This recent award is a reminder of how fortunate we are to live in a community that offers such opportunities and support for music in our schools. Thanks to all the students, the music teachers, and the dedicated parents!
