Hello band families,

Some of our DHS Band students will participate in a cultural exchange event this weekend with Inuyama, Japan.
The Davis Youth Flute Choir, led by Maquette Kuper, will perform with flutists from the DHS Band program. Some members of the DHS Symphonic Band and the UC Davis Concert Band will perform together under the direction of Fred Lange and UC Davis band director Pete Nowlen. Local musical artist Deborah Pittman will present selections on a Native American wooden flute. The featured presentations of this concert will include highlights of Japanese folktales presented by the "Noh Theater" group (pictured below), an ensemble that performs ancient Japanese music and plays from the 12-14th centuries. The Sister City Concert will be held this Sunday, November 6th, at 3 pm at the Veteran's Memorial Theater as part of a celebration to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sister City relationship between Davis and Inuyama, Japan. Tickets: $8 general, $5 students at Watermelon Music, 207 E St.; tickets at the door will be $10.

A free workshop session also is planned at 3 p.m. Saturday in the band
room at Davis High School, 315 W. 14th St., where the visiting
performers from Inuyama will give demonstrations of traditional Japanese
 music and theater.
