JAZZ EXTRAVAGANZA FRIDAY - YOU WON'T WANT TO MISS THIS ONE

A musical treat is in store for area jazz-lovers as guest artist Mary Fettig takes the stage with the award-winning Davis Senior High School Jazz Band at the 26th Annual Jazz Extravaganza concert. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 18 in the Brunelle Performing Arts Theater on the Davis High School campus, 315 W. 14th Ave. Ms. Fettig has the distinction of being the first woman instrumentalist in the Stan Kenton Band, and she is currently a well-known saxophonist/flutist and educator in the Bay Area. She has also recorded with jazz artists Tito Puente, Marian McPartland, Flora Purim, Nnenna Freelon and others. Her recent CD as band leader, "Brazilian Footprints", was released to critical acclaim and was hailed as "one of the most joyous and purely listenable recordings of the year" by Brad Walseth of jazzchicago.net and "what upscale jazz should look to if it wants to get it right" by Chris Spector of Midwest Record. In addition to her jazz talents, she is a veteran performer in San Francisco musical theatre orchestras, regularly performs with the San Francisco Symphony in pop and jazz roles, and is also on faculty at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. The November 18 performance promises a full evening of exciting jazz, pairing this outstanding guest artist with the dynamic DHS Jazz Band. Featured musical selections will include Strike Up The Band, Indian Summer, Darn That Dream, Sail Away, Caravan and others. A suggested donation of $8.00 general/$6.00 senior and student/$20.00 family will be accepted at the door.
