Check this out? Mr. S ---------------------------- Thomas Slabaugh II Director of Bands Davis Senior High School tslabaugh at djusd.net Greetings, The School Band and Orchestra Magazine has recently announced an essay contest open to students from grades 4 to 12. Although I can see that this magazine would generate more affinity to instrumental music teachers, there is nothing I can see in this contest that would exclude choral students from participating. The awards include cash (check) scholarship money to winning students and purchase vouchers to the student's winning school from music companies. The theme of the essay contest is "Now more than ever music education is important because?" There are two student categories. One is grades four to eight and the other is grades nine to twelve. The deadline is December 31, 2013. Essays are submitted online at http://www.sbomagazine.com/essay-contest-2014/ Two years ago a 7th grader from Harper JH (one of Greg Brucker's students) was one of the winners in her category. If you know of any students who would be interested, I'd greatly appreciate it if you could pass on my contact information to them! I anticipate being in the Davis area until December. Some information about the oboe: - Resin body - includes low Bb and left F keys (no third octave key) - has alternate C key ("banana key") - cork and pads all in great condition - a couple of minor cosmetic scratches - do not affect sound - comes with a hard case in good condition, reed case with space for 3 reeds, and a silk cleaning swab Thank you, Rachel McFarland (530) 574-5628 This email message is for the sole use of the intended recipient(s) and may contain privileged and confidential information. If you renew by Saturday, August 31, you won't need a new Scrip card. Simply follow the link below and in less than a minute you are good to go for the year, with no interruptions to your scrip donations. Visit _https://scrip.nuggetmarket.com_ (https://scrip.nuggetmarket.com/) or _https://www.f4lscrip.com_ (https://www.f4lscrip.com/) today! Beginning September 1, 2013 your Scrip account will become inactive and any donations earned will no longer be credited to the bands. With our biggest trip in the 3 year cycle to Victoria B.C. this spring, we will need to take advantage of every fund raising opportunity we can. Please renew your scrip today! Also, we still need a Scrip Coordinator. It is a simple job to do, but so very helpful to the bands. We'd love to have this in place before our first booster meeting on Sept 3rd if possible. Please let us know if you can help. Katie Horn Spring Trip Coordinator -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
