Subject: Thursday Night Reading Band at CSUS

Fellow teachers,

We have established a reading Big Band at CSUS that will meet every Thursday night from 7:00 to 9:15 in Capistrano Hall room 313 (See attachments). This is a band that any of your students that would like more experience reading are welcome to come any time. There is no commitment necessary, and this is not a band that will be looking for gigs. Just reading.

I have been fortunate enough to acquire two large working libraries from Bay-area band leaders, and will be using these charts as the basis for this project. The level of difficulty will be easy-moderate to moderate hard (I guess), and the goal is just to read some charts, build skill and chops, and have a good time. We have a nice collection of music students, seasoned community members, and working musicians along with a few high school students, and we would like to encourage many more to come! We can always double up on parts if need be. Back-line, grand piano, and drums (-cymbals) are there, so just bring your axe. Reeds have occasional doubles, so a good chance to improve (or learn) doubles.
