<DIV>Hi all,</DIV>
<DIV>It looks like it is not as easy to just make a reservation at the Portola
Hotel, the hotel the jazz band has stayed at in the past, and is connected to
the site where the festival is. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>For this event, reservations are first come first served, but they will
only accept a reservation when you email a rooming list to the hotel. No
changes to the list are accepted after they receive it. <BR><BR>SO, this
means that in order to get a reservation, we must submit a list of who will room
with who. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>We have 20 boys in the band = 5 rooms. And 5 girls in the band =
either 2 rooms or 1 room + a roll away bed. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Mr. Lange can take care of room assignments at school for the
students. </DIV>
<DIV><BR>Parents interested in chaperoning this event should reply here if you
want to be part of the official rooming list sent to the hotel as part of our
reservation. Cost is $151/ room (not including tax or any other hotel
fees...) </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Once we have names to create a rooming list for both chaperones and
students, I can submit an official reservation request. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Thanks,</DIV>
<DIV>Katie Horn</DIV>

AM<BR>> To: Fred Lange<BR>> Subject: NGJF results<BR>> <BR>> Hi
Fred,<BR>> <BR>> I hope you are doing well. We finally have the Next
Generation Jazz Festival audition results back from our faculty judges at
Berklee College, and I am please to inform you that the Davis Senior High
School Jazz Band has been selected to participate as a finalist in the High
School Big Band Division for the NGJF next April 1-3. Congratulations to you
and the members of the ensemble.<BR>> <BR>> I will send you an
official letter of acceptance in the mail. However, in an effort to save
paper, I will be sending via email other important documents and information
including the results from our draw for warm-up and performance times,
sign-up sheets for additional performance venues, stage plot forms, etc. So
that you can get started with travel plans and make your room reservations
for the event in April, I have attached in this email a list of hotels
located in the downtown Monterey area. Please note that your group name has
been sent to the staff at our host hotel, the Portola Hotel and Spa, but
that rooms there are available on a first come, first serve basis. Included
on the hotel list attachment is a flyer with procedural information and a
Code of Conduct from the staff at the Portola Hotel. Please contact Sandy
Ram at sram@portolahotel.com<mailto:sram@portolahotel.com> or if Sandy
is unavailable, try Doris
Lopez-dlopez@portolahotel.com<mailto:dlopez@portolahotel.com> or call
her at 831 649-2688 to make your reservations. You should have a credit card
and your room requirements ready to go.<BR>> <BR>> Should you decide
to use the Portola Hotel, I can send you a room-list form which the staff at
the hotel require groups to use. 2011 NGJF room rates in our student block
at the Portola Hotel and Spa are $151 plus tax for participating ensembles,
and for general public the rate is $219 plus tax. Please let me know if you
are planning to stay there.<BR>> <BR>> As well, please be aware that
we have held a number of rooms at the Monterey Marriott which is also
attached to the Monterey Conference Center ($193 for any room plus tax). The
Marriott requires a two-night stay minimum.<BR>> <BR>> I知 happy to
report that the Next Generation Festival will continue to be free and open
to the public for 2011 and requires no tickets or passes. However, new this
year will be a Gold Circle VIP seating made available for purchase for the
Friday Night Judges Concert. Tickets for this stage front area seating will
be on sale for $50 and includes a post-concert reception. More details on
this will follow. By using hotels/motels in the City of Monterey, you can
help us to keep the event free for the future. Please do not hesitate to
contact me for help in obtaining rooms or any other NGJF related
matter.<BR>> <BR>> Finally, please take a moment to reply to this
email so that I know that you have received your confirmation as a finalist.
Once again my congratulations and I look forward to hearing your fine jazz
band at the Next Generation Jazz Festival!<BR>> <BR>> All the
best,<BR>> <BR>> Rob Klevan<BR>> MJF Jazz Education
