ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY: Longest strike in Major League Baseball history ends. Major League Baseball players are sent back to work after the longest strike in baseball history ends on this day in 1995. Because of the strike, the 1994 World Series was cancelled; it was the first time
baseball did not crown a champion in 89 years.

CAFETERIA SPECIAL OF THE DAY: Chicken or Vegetable Chow Mien.

NEW

	*	The Davis High School Cheer squad is looking for students with school spirit who love to dance, tumble and stunt. Come learn about DHS Cheer at one of two Cheer Information Nights, 7 p.m. on April 21 and 22 in Room O-7 at DHS (next to the new parking lot). Students currently in grades 8-11 are invited to try out - both girls and boys! A try-out clinic runs 4 to 6 p.m. May 3-7 in the DHS Dance Room. Try-outs are all day on Saturday, May 8, in the DHS Dance Room. To learn more about the DHS Cheer program or to see the team's performances, visit <http://www.dhscheer.org/>. For more information, e-mail Coach Alisha Eller at aeller at djusd.k12.ca.us or call 514-0405.

	*	If you are a junior boy, you can still apply for the American Legion's Boys State program! Boys State is an all expense paid summer work-study program designed to help students learn about the structure and workings of our government. Come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office for more information and an application.

	*	Attention spring cleaners! If you run across old cell phones, ink jet cartridges, or non-refurbished laser cartridges, please bring them to the large white box in the small copy room by the reception desk. It's empty and hungry for your donations. Donations for these items are accepted all year long. Thank you from the Special Ed department.

	*	Did you go to North Davis Elementary School? Remember 4th grade? Remember Mr. Felton? This North Davis Elementary teacher is retiring after 33 years. A memory book is being created for him and comments from former students are needed! Come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office by Friday and sign Mr. Felton's memory book!

	*	Recycle your old cell phones, chargers, and batteries with the Save Darfur Club! Your good deed will multiply tenfold: recycling cell phones reduces demand for Coltan, a rare mineral ore used in electronics that has fueled Civil War in the Congo and caused the destruction of endangered gorilla and elephant habitats in Congolese forests. Please drop phones in the green boxes located in the front office and library, or bring them to the Save Darfur table at the club's fair on Friday at lunch on the quad.

	*	On April 15th Davis High School athletic department will provide an athletic recruitment seminar for student-athletes and their parents. Julian Jenkins from the National Collegiate Scouting Association will be presenting at this seminar. The seminar will begin at 7 pm and be held in the old Davis high school gym and will last approximately one hour. The seminar will cover the following points of interest: 1) As a high school student-athlete, how do I get recruited to play sports in college? 2) NCAA Eligibility Center- what does it take academically to be eligible for recruitment. 3) Be Realistic: Not everyone is a Division 1 level athlete. 4) Your coach alone is not responsible for getting you a scholarship! 5) Strategies on how to maximize an athlete's recruiting potential. This is a great opportunity for parents and students to get valuable information on the realities of the college recruiting process. If you and/or your parents are interested in attending this seminar, sign up with Mr. Dietrich in the athletic office or simply send him an email stating that you wish to attend to: mdietrich at djusd.k12.ca.us <mailto:mdietrich at djusd.k12.ca.us>. See you there!

	*	Got a sick whip? If you do, the car show is right around the corner. Pick up a packet in the front office. This years' competition is now open to teachers and parents, so be sure to grad a packet because they're due April 21st.

	*	Do you know any talented basketball players who aren't on the team? Have them sign-up for the Student vs. Staff basketball game! The sign-up sheet will be in C-4 and will be out until Friday, April 2.

	*	Come to the Political Forum Club to discuss the historical passing of the health care bill and the controversial reactions to it. Political Forum Club is located in P-23.

	*	Do you have bottle-throwing capabilities? Do you want a ride on the friendship ship? Bring your caboosh to the friendship day crew and bust out your moves. Turn in your applications by April 2. Drive safe!
