*DAY IN HISTORY *
On this day in 1955, William G. Cobb of the General Motors Corp. (GM)
demonstrates his 15-inch-long "Sunmobile," the world's first solar-powered
automobile, at the General Motors Powerama auto show held in Chicago,
Illinois.

*TODAY*

1. Lunch Menu:  Chicken Lo Mein with fried rice; Veggie Lo Mein with fried
rice; Sushi with broccoli slaw; BBQ cheeseburger; Pizza

2.Do you like to argue and prove yourself right? If yes, then please come to
this year’s first Speech and Debate Team meeting on Wednesday, August 31 at
3:30pm in Room P-23. We will discuss our upcoming tournament on September 17
and introduce to you what Speech and Debate is all about! Hope to see you
there!

3. Chess Club is having its first informational meeting this Wednesday at
lunch in room L-10. Be sure to attend as we will discuss plans for this
upcoming year, including the tournament we will be hosting in October.
Anyone interested in chess is welcome regardless if you are a new or
experienced player.

4. Want to start a new club or continue one from last year? Come to room
C-04 today to get an application. Apps are due September 16.


*NEW*

1.Come to a welcome back breakfast hosted by the AVID Parent Advisory
Committee. Everyone: administrators, teachers, students and parents are
invited. Come meet the new AVID teacher and the Parent Advisory Committee
this Thursday, September 1 at 7:00am in Room 0-4 “Mr. Curley’s Room”.

2.All *Sophomores*: if you are interested in helping to build this year’s
homecoming float, come to Mrs. Curry’s room P-24 this Thursday at lunch.
This is just for the sophomore class. There will be food provided.

3.The DHS Auto Shop is looking for one more TA. If you are hard-working,
reliable, easy to get along with and are looking for a TA position 5th
period, please see Mr. Thayer in the Auto Shop room O-3.

4.Interested in helping the environment and having fun? Come to the
Environmental Club this Friday at lunch in room S-10. There will be free
treats!

5.Visit our lunch room newly located in room 0-1 for delicious and healthful
lunches!

1.Attendance reminder: We want you to be in class every day and on time!
However, if you are absent you have two business days to clear absences. You
are considered truant and will receive consequences if you accumulate 10
unexcused period absences. 20 unexcused period absences generates a Level 2
truancy letter and 30 unexcused period absences generates a Level 3 truancy
letter.

2.If you still need to get a locker you need to do this at lunch time
ONLY!!! Please fill out a form and we will get a locker for you as soon as
possible.

3. Staff: please be sure to get your parking placards from Lynette Kimura.
Parking enforcement will begin on Tuesday, September 6.

4.Got school spirit? Come on down to the first Blue Devils Club meeting this
Friday, September 2 at lunch in room N-10. We will introduce the club, talk
about future events and more! There will be free cookies and pins.

5. Calling all dancers! The DHS Jazz Choir announces its second annual dance
competition, “Everybody Dance Now!” Ten dance acts will compete to win one
of two cash prizes ($75 and $150). Application forms are available in the
DHS office, in the Vocal Room (PA-08), and on the Jazz Choir website (
www.dhsjazzchoir.org). Applications must be received by Friday, September 9
at 3:00 p.m. along with a $10 application fee.

6. Student planners are still available for purchase in the Finance Office,
at lunch time only, for $8.00.

7. Hearing screening for all sophomores will take place during your English
classes on Thursday, Sept. 1.

8. *EMPLOYMENT*: If you are interested in a Sunday morning childcare
position, working with adults and children, please phone Marilee Eusebio,
530-756-6881 or contact her by email: marileee at juno.com. A resume is
helpful. The job is at least 2 hours, sometimes more, and is $8.00/hr. The
deadline is September 3rd with interviews to be scheduled immediately
thereafter.
