February 6, 1964 Beatles Arrive in New York
On February 7, 1964, Pan Am Yankee Clipper flight 101 from London Heathrow lands at New York's Kennedy Airport and "Beatlemania" arrives. It was the first visit to the United States by the Beatles a British rock-and-roll quartet that had just scored its first No. 1 U.S. hit six days before with "I Want to Hold Your Hand".

REMINDER

1. Attention DHS students: All students who are 18 and over will NOT be allowed to sign out themselves without parent permission. If you're absent or need to leave early, you will need to provide verification from your parent or guardian.

2. Starting March 1st any student parking in the Oak Street lot nearest the stadium will be ticketed if they are parked in a staff designated slot. Teachers please make sure to put your DHS placard up and visible. Once a ticket is given it cannot be retracted.

3. Seniors: A diploma order form list has been completed. Please come to the front office to confirm the spelling of your name as it will appear on the diploma. The deadline to do this is Friday, February 11. Diplomas will be ordered according to list after that date.

4.  Xin nian kuaile (sheen nian kwai (uhh) or 'Gung Hay Fat Choy"! The DHS Chinese Club wants to wish you a Happy Chinese New Year! Come to Chinese Club in N-15A on Tuesday to receive lucky red envelopes and celebrate the New Years with traditional Chinese treats!

NEW

1. Great seats are still available for the Sunday February 13 Cabaret performance by the DHS Jazz Choir and Jazz Combo. (Saturday is sold out). The venue is Emerson Jr. High Indoor commons, where you can enjoy Jazz, Theater, and Pop music performed by the Jazz Choir, and Jazz Combo, a delicious catered dinner by Cracchiolos, and a silent auction and raffle. Pick up ticket order forms at the DHS, Da Vinci and Emerson main offices, or from the Jazz Choir website www.dhsjazzchoir.org<http://www.dhsjazzchoir.org./>. If you can't make it to the Cabaret dinner, enjoy all of the music of Cabaret at a special Cabaret Concert Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in the Brunelle Theater! Tickets will be available at the door $5 Students and seniors $10 Adults. 2. Parent Nigh Class of 2014 (Incoming 10th graders) Davis Senior High School at the Richard M. Brunelle Performance Hall (IPAB) on February 10 (Thursday) 7:00pm-8:30pm. Parents are cordially invited to join the Davis Senior High School counselors to learn about program planning for the 2011-2012 school year. Parents and students are also welcome to join us for a special program explaining AP/honors and ROP courses on February 16 (Wednesday) from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm in the North Gym at DSHS.

3. OPEN HOUSE will be held on April 28 (Thursday) from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. We are planning a special orientation for our incoming sophomores and their parents at 5:00 pm.  Please mark your calendar now. Attention all applicants for AP ART Studio for 2011-12. Your portfolio of work will be due for review by the Art Department no later than Friday, February 18.

4. The DHS Climate Committee will meet this Wednesday at 2:45 in the library West classroom. Everyone is welcome!

5. Seniors; Jostens will be available for any last minute Caps/Gowns/Tassels and Graduation Announcements orders on Tuesday, February 8th after school in the quad. Extra packets are available in the office.

6. Would you like to learn what it's like to be a United States Marine? If so, a U.S. Marine recruiter will be available on the quad at lunch on Tuesday, February 8. Look for him at one of the picnic tables at lunch on Tuesday to get more information about the Marines and to get free stuff!

7. Students, if you are planning to go on college visits and will be missing school time, have your parents write a note at least several days prior to the visit to get it excused.  Otherwise, it will be noted as a personal absence and unexcused. They need to turn the note into the Attendance office for the administrator's approval.

9. Hey Seniors! Come to the meeting in N-16 on Tuesday, February 8 we will be discussing the theme for Senior Ball.

10. Class Rings: DHS Class Rings ordered earlier this year will be available for pick-up on Tuesday, February 8th after school in the quad. New orders require a $50.00 deposit!

TODAY

1. Cafeteria: Mediterranean Frittata, chili cheese breakfast bake, farm to school pizza, breakfast pizza, sandwich.

2. Fall Semester Independent Lifetime sports students may pick up their final projects during lunch on Monday in the new gym.

3. If you are interested in spoken word poetry or even lyrical rap, come to room O-1 (Creative Writing room) at lunch on Monday to see Sickspits, UCDavis' spoken work poetry collective.

4. Tryouts for DHS Women's Soccer for 11th and 12th graders will report on Feb.7. Times for all days are 4:00pm, at Yudin Field. Players should bring water, soccer shoes, shin-guards, and running shoes, as well as the completed athletic participation forms.

2 The California State Summer School for the Arts is seeking the most talented high school-aged visual, literary, media and performing artists in California. The students who are selected through the competitive application process will attend one of the country's premier summer arts institutes on the campus of the California Institute of the Arts, in Valencia, from July 9- August 5, 2011. Students will spend four weeks studying and working with professional artists, writers and performers of national stature. The deadline to apply is February 28. For more information about this program, come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office (next to counseling).
