On this day in 1940, as Winston Churchill<http://www.history.com/topics/winston-churchill> takes the helm as Great Britain's new prime minister, he assures Parliament that his new policy will consist of nothing less than "to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us; to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark, lamentable catalogue of human crime."

REMINDER


1. Students riding the district Unitrans buses are to meet in the East parking lot next to the tennis courts on Saturday at 5:30pm, buses leave at 5:45pm sharp. Your bus number is on the back of your ticket and you MUST ride on your assigned bus! Buses will return to the DHS parking lot directly following the prom at approximately 12:40am.

2. Need a prom corsage? The Floral Design class has a few extra orchid corsages made and for sale today.
Come to room 0-01A at 2:30 to buy what we have left.

3. SENIORS: Don't forget to fill out a PERMANENT ADDRESS CARD if you haven't already. Turn in completed cards into the Front Desk. Extra cards are available at the Counseling Office or the Front Desk.

4. SENIORS: Don't forget to request your FINAL TRANSCRIPT to be sent to the college you will be attending. Bring in a stamped addressed envelope to the Transcript Counter and follow the posted instructions.

NEW

1. There will be a CSF General Meeting today at lunch in P-13. This is the second to last meeting of the semester.

2. The time has come seniors!!! The Blue and White yearbook is here to blow your minds on Friday, May 20th for you only. Pick up is at lunch and after school. Junior distribution is on Monday, May 23rd and sophomore distribution is on Tuesday the 24th. This yearbook will sell out soon so buy yours at yearbooksforever.com or in A-7. $82 this week and $90 during distribution so buy yours today!!!

3. Ticket sales for Grad Night 2011 end May 31st. Tickets are $90 now, $110 at the door. Please pick up a reservation form in the office. Scholarships are available through your counselor.

4. Are you done with your SAT, ACT, and AP exam prep books?? Bring them to the office or library for donation between now and the last day of school for a chance to win a cool prize. The donations will be sent to Washington Unified School District to help other students in need of preparation material. If you have questions email Michael Cheung at wjc10992 at sbcglobal.net

5. Jostens will be here on Friday, May 27 at lunch for you to pick up your cap and gowns. Be there!!!

6. Attention all girls interested in trying out for Davis High Schools GIRLS Volleyball in the fall, come check our OPEN GYM times starting on May 19. Open gyms will be from 4-6pm in the South Gym at Davis High. Please feel free to check out our website for the specific dates. 7. Seniors: Pay all owed lunch fees with cash or check to the Kitchen before June 9th or your diploma may be withheld.

8. Tickets for Davis High School graduation will be available starting on Wednesday, May 18th. Stay tuned for more information next week.

TODAY

1. Cafeteria: Meatloaf sandwich with potato salad, hot dog with baked beans, pizza, sandwich, chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries.

2. STUDENTS: Do you know a DHS Teacher who motivates students to learn, views teaching as an opportunity to serve students, brings dignity to the profession of teaching, demonstrates fairness to all students, supports student thinking and understanding, and through his/her work exemplifies the high ethical codes of the teaching profession. If so, come to the main office and pick up and complete a Rotarian Teacher Award nomination form and return it to Mrs. Vogel in the Principals' office by Friday, May 13.

3. Are you interested in pursuing a career in the arts? Barbizon Performing Arts Academy, located in San Francisco, offers majors in modeling, acting, singing, dancing, photography, and fashion design. A Barbizon representative will be available on the quad at lunch on Friday to provide information to students about their school, and offer handouts on job interviewing techniques and personal development. Look for the Barbizon table on the quad at lunch on Friday!

1. Juniors: If applying to private colleges, plan on attending the Private College Workshop on May 19, lunchtime in the South Gym. Learn about the college application process for UC/CSU's: College Workshop on May 26 lunch time in the South Gym.

2. Any student who arrives on campus 5 or more minutes prior to the start of class has 2 choices: go to the library or sit at the blue tables near the tennis courts. Students who remain on campus for athletic practices or for any other reason must also go to the library or sit at blue tables by tennis courts. Students may not sit in any other areas on campus.

3. SUMMER INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: The Gap in Davis is offering an unpaid 90-day internship program for students interested in learning about fashion, merchandising, or business. Interns will learn all aspects of The Gap including the hiring and training process, The Gap business concept, product receiving, displaying, and marketing, and more. Interns start the first week of June. Days and hours are flexible. Contact Darcy Allen at 530-750-1070 or come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office for more information.
