THIS DAY IN HISTORY
-On this day in 1895, physicist Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen (1845-1923) becomes the first person to observe X-rays, a significant scientific advancement that would ultimately benefit a variety of fields, most of all medicine, by making the invisible visible.

COLLEGE VISITS - Prior to attending the college visit, students must go to their class and check in with their teachers. Only students who have pre-registered in Naviance will be able to attend the college visit. Only 11th/12th graders may attend a college visit.

- Attn: Seniors: The panoramic senior photo will be taken during 5th period on Today, November 8th. Report to your 5th period class and your teacher will take you over to the gym.

-Dance Club - The dance club is having a meeting today in the Dance room. Hope to see you there!

- Juniors and Seniors:  Do you want an education that is hands on and will give you a global perspective? Do you like to travel? Do you seek adventure? If so, come to a presentation about studying abroad and how to pay for your adventure.  A representative from UC Davis will be in the Career Center N-17 at lunch on Tuesday, November 8 to talk about his experiences abroad in Costa Rica, and how the Gilman International Scholarship helped him pay for it.  See you in the Career Center Tuesday at lunch!

-Come show off your skills or learn new ones! Join the Freestyle Club which meets on Wednesdays in the Dance Room during lunch.

-JOB OPPORTUNITY:  The City of Davis is looking for Junior Basketball Coaches and Officials.  The 7-week program begins on January 16 and teaches basic basketball fundamentals and skills to boys and girls in 3rd - 9th grades.  Applicants must be at least 15 years old, have knowledge of basketball rules and fundamentals, and be able to work with children.  Apply online at www.cityofdavis.org, or come to the Career Center in N-17 for more information.

-DHS Boys JV & Varsity Lacrosse Registration is Open-

All interested players MUST REGISTER on-line and ATTEND the Parent/Athlete Meeting, so we can provide important program information and complete all required forms.

-Canned Food Drive- The canned food drive runs from November 9 - 18. Bring non-perishables to your 4th period class for a chance to win a Chipotle Burrito Party!

-Attention All Clubs: There is now a box in the office for yearbook club photo forms. Turn-in your forms ASAP because space is limited.

-Attention all clubs! If you would like to have your club or group photo featured in the Yearbook, you must fill out a form. Go to dhsyearbook.wordpress.com to download the form. For more information, come to room A-7 during 5th period or to room C-3 to see Mrs. Thomsen.

-WHAT STUDENTS and PARENTS REALLY NEED TO KNOW ABOUT GETTING INTO COLLEGE
On November 9, from 7:30 - 9:00 pm in the DHS library, the DHS PTA will host a talk by UC Davis Associate Chancellor Emerita, Dr. Sally Springer, author of the bestselling book, "Admission Matters: What Students and Parents need to Know About Getting into College."  She will cover a number of important points about the college admissions process          that students and parents need to know before they begin the college admissions journey. Her talk will include information on how to build a college list, what colleges look for in applicants, financial aid, and more.

-Anyone interested in a trip to Germany this summer? Please come to room N-15 on Thursday, Nov.10th @ 7:30pm.
*Knowledge of German is not required.

-DHS Student Leaders of clubs, booster groups, ASB:
Thursday, November 10, is the deadline for submitting information and articles for the November 2011 Davis High School PTA newsletter. Please send news, announcements, etc. to the DHS PTA Media list serve at DHSPTAmedia at mailman.dcn.org. Please include your name, e-mail address and phone number in case the newsletter editor has questions about your submission. The newsletter is the ONLY communication tool that reaches ALL DHS families, whether they have Internet access or not. The newsletter is generally available around the 15th of each month. This is a great way to inform, notify or enlist parents' help for upcoming DHS school and student activities.

-Need help in your language class? Come to N-15 during lunch any day of the week to receive help from experienced tutors!
