-1883- Railroads create the first time zones-At exactly noon on this day, American and Canadian railroads begin using four continental time zones to end the confusion of dealing with thousands of local times.

ATHLETICS
- Congratulations and Good Luck to the Boys Varsity Cross Country Running team who qualified for the 'State' Cross Country Championship meet to be held  in Clovis on Friday Nov.25th, AND to Sophie Meads who Also qualified for the Girls 'State' Cross Country Runners Championship competition!
 COLLEGE VISITS - Prior to attending the college visit, students must go to their class and check in with their teachers. Only students who have pre-registered in Naviance will be able to attend the college visit. Only 11th/12th graders may attend a college visit.

-For Lunch: Today we have a Rice Bowl (made from local, organic rice) with the Choice of BBQ Beef, Mandarin Chicken, or Honey Fire Chicken.  And we also have Curry Chick Peas with Naan Bread.

-What are you doing tonight? The annual DHS Jazz Band "Jazz Extravaganza" will be held in Brunelle Theatre tonight! This is the 26th year for this concert and will feature guest saxophonist and educator, Mary Fettig.  Donations at the door: $8 general; $6 student/senior; $20 family. The Concert will begin at 7:30pm.

-A Reminder to all DHS Bands! Applications for the City's annual Battle of the Bands are DUE! Submit your application today and compete for a $100 cash prize! The competition will take place at the Brunelle Performing Arts Theatre.

-Hola Amigos! Latinos Unidos is having a fundraiser at El Mariachi Restaurant in downtown Davis tonight. Let them know you came to support the Latinos Unidos club and 20% of the night's proceeds will go to our club. Gracias!

-Hey Seniors! Today is the last day to Rent-a-Senior. Turn in your applications to C-4 Today!

-Red Cross Club will be meeting today at lunch in room S-1. Anyone who is interested to help with the blood drive committee is welcome to join. See you there!

-Canned Food Drive- Today is the last day to bring your non-perishables to your 4th period classes for a chance to win a Chipotle Burrito Party! Thank you everyone who participated!

-Transgender Day- Today is Transgender Day to remember and honor all those who have been wrongly murdered because of their gender identity or gender expression. Please visit the flowers in the quad. Each flower will represent someone who has died.

-VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:  Korematsu Elementary School needs volunteers for its Winter Craft fair tomorrow Saturday, November 19th from 9pm - 3pm in Korematsu's MPR. Come to the Career Center in N-17 for more information.

-Are you looking for a good time or a place to buy gifts for the upcoming holidays? If so, come to the Cultural exchange clubs annual benefit concert and auction, featuring the Youth Musicians Outreach. The concert will be held tomorrow Nov 19th at 7:00pm at the Newman Chapel on C St. Tickets are $10 and can be bought from any Cultural Exchange member or at the door.

-Remember to cheer the DHS Boys and Girls Basketball teams as they take on the alumni players at the Second Annual Alumni Games on Saturday, November 26. For more information go to www.davishighhoops.com

-Junior Prom is December 10th.  You can pick-up dance contracts in Room C-4.  Guests are required to fill out a guest pass.

-CHiPS for Kids Toy Drive- Would you like to help make a hospitalized child or a disadvantaged child Happy?
Beginning Today, November 16th through Friday December 16 you can bring a new, unwrapped toy to the DHS
Front office Toy Drive Barrel. Toys will be delivered to the children just before the holidays.

-Dixon Rugby Football Club invites Davis Boys and Girls to a rugby mini-camp Saturday and Sunday December 10-11,
8:30am -3:00pm in Dixon.  For registration and information, go to www.dixonrugby.com.

-JOB OPPORTUNITY:  The City of Davis is looking for Junior Basketball Coaches and Officials to teach basic basketball fundamentals and skills to boys and girls in 3rd through 9th grades. Come to the Career Center in N-17 for more information.

- Come to the DHS Movie Night on Tuesday, November 29 (first Tuesday after break!). The movie "Yes Man" will be shown in Mr. Reilly's room   P-10 at 6:00pm. See you there!

-Seniors:  Show all your fellow classmates how cute you were as a kindergartner! Bring in a wallet sized (2x3) photo for the Kindergarten Wall at Grad Night. Drop box is located at the DHS Front Desk.

-"Save the date - our first blood drive of the year will be Friday, Dec. 2.  You must be a minimum of 16 years old to donate.  More details to follow."

- If you would like to have your club or group photo featured in the Yearbook, you must fill out a form. Go to dhsyearbook.wordpress.com to download the form. For more information, come to room A-7 during 5th period or to room C-3 to see Mrs. Thomsen.
