THIS DAY IN HISTORY
-1800:  President John Adams became the first president to reside in the executive mansion, which soon became known as the "White House" because its white-gray Virginia freestone contrasted strikingly with the red brick of nearby buildings.

COLLEGE VISITS  - all visits are in the Career Center, Room N-17. The complete list of college visits is available in N-17.
Students interested in attending a college visit must sign up for the visit at least one day prior in Naviance. The visits will have a limit of 70 students. Prior to attending the college visit, students must go to their class and check in with their teachers. Only students who have pre-registered in Naviance will be able to attend the college visit. Only 11th/12th graders may attend a college visit.

-Congratulations to Davis Senior High School students who have been named Commended Students in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship competition.  Come to the Career Center in N-17 to see the list of Commended Students.  If your name is on the list, you will receive a certificate from the National Merit Corporation.

-Applications for cabin leaders to go to Walker creek with Korematsu Elementary are due on Wednesday, October 19.  Boys are highly encouraged to apply.  Applications should be submitted to Brent Miille at Korematsu Elementary.

-Davis High's Red Cross Club will meet Friday, October 14 at lunch in S-1. Anyone who is interested is welcome to join!

Hey Blue Devils! There is a Blue Devils Club meeting Friday, October 14 at lunch in N-10. Join us as we play our first lunch game and talk about events such as Halloween and the Nautical Dance. Hope to see you there!

Would you like to explore careers that interest you?  If so, you should attend the Navigate Your Future Caree r GPS event at Cal Expo on October 13-14.  At the fair, students will experience interactive, hands-on exhibits from 150 employers, training providers, colleges and universities.  Students will also be able to explore a variety of careers using three interactive websites, and participate in financial and career planning workshops. -Please join DHS's Advanced Treble Choir for an exciting evening of musical entertainment at Davis' own "Community Idol." On October 15 at 7:00 pm, in the Richard Brunelle Performance Hall, soloists (18 and older) will have the opportunity to wow the audience and compete before a judging panel and audience for prizes. Tickets are available at Watermelon Music (207 E Street) for $6.00 or from an ATC member. Tickets will be available at the door for $8.00. Contestants will be joined by performances from Davis high's all-female Advanced Treble choir.  All proceeds from the event benefit ATC's music program.

The first CAML test will be held on Tuesday October 18 at lunch in any math classroom.  CAML or California Mathematics League is a problem solving competition that is participated by more than 150 high schools in California.  There are 6 tests scheduled throughout the school year and you can participate in as many as you would like.  Ask your math teacher about extra credit opportunities for participating in this competition.

DHS Boys Lacrosse registration opens October 17! If you're interested in learning more about or playing Lacrosse, (one of the fastest growing team sports in the country) it's important that you sign-up online!  By registering, you'll be included in all future correspondence. Parents, there are no fees to register and just three easy steps to get started-Go to: http://www.davislacrosse.org/ and on the left side, click on the tab. 'Register Online'. -From the Online Registration System screen, you must scroll down to 'DHS -Select 'Begin Registration'. Note: High School athletes are not required to become US LAX members. An Informational Parent/ Athlete Meeting will be held Thursday, Nov. 10 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in the Holmes Jr. High MPR.  For more information contact Lydia at 530-574-8013.

-October is Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender History Month. The DHS Gay Straight Alliance is putting up posters with Gay History and historical figures around the school.  For example, did you know that the former tennis champion Billie Jean King is a lesbian?
