-On this day in 1918, a Liberty Loan parade in Philadelphia prompts a huge outbreak of the flu epidemic in the city. By the time the epidemic ended, an estimated 30 million people were dead worldwide.

-Do you like to prove your friends wrong in everything sports? Come to Sports Debate Club Thursday, Sept. 29 at lunch in L-23. It's the newest, most interesting club on campus. Delectible desserts may be provided.

-Hey Blue Devils! There's a Blue Devils Club meeting Friday, Sept. 30 at lunch in N-10. If you want a shirt, remember to bring money! Regular shirts are $11. Customized shirts are $16. Hope to see you there.

-Picture Retake Day is Tuesday, October 4.  Forms are in the Front Office . Watch for details in the Daily Bulletin or visit lifetouch.com

-Are you interested in learning about the U.S. Marine Corps?  If so, a representative of the Marines will be in the Career Center in N-17 at lunch on Friday to provide information and answer questions about the Marines.  See you in the Career Center on Friday at lunch!

-Outdoor Education counselor applications are now available in the Career Center, N-17.  Schools that need counselors are:  Korematsu, Montgomery, Patwin, North Davis and Birch Lane Elementaries.

-VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:  Volunteers are needed to help at the Cool Davis Festival, sponsored by the City of Davis.  The Cool Davis Festival encourages people to lead a lifestyle that reduces their carbon footprint.  Volunteers are needed to assist with car and bike parking, food court area, recycling/composting, theater ushers and greeters.  The event will take place on Sunday, October 16.  Come to the Career Center in N-17 to sign up!

-The article in the Hub did not mention that rabies is a dangerous, contagious disease spread by animal bites. Feeding or petting wild animals is dangerous because of this. Please do not bother, feed or attempt to pet any wild animals. Science teachers, feel free to impress this on your students.

-There will be a University of California presentation for students and parents on Thursday, September 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the IPAB.  A representative will explain the admission process and answer questions from parents and students.  If you have any questions, please contact your counselor.

-Are you interested in cars? The DHS Car Club is holding its first meeting on Tuesday, October 4 at lunch in Room O-3. We will be discussing the club's goals and projects, including a day at the race track. Hope to see you there!

-Students and Teachers! An art project is being proposed for our new stadium. If you would like to be a part of the decision, please come to the Library's west conference room at lunch on October 4 to speak with our designer. She will tell us about the purse, the process, elicit you feedback, and tell how you can help.

-Internship Opportunity:  the Gap in Davis is offering an unpaid internship program for junior and senior students who are interested in learning about fashion, merchandising or business. Interns will learn all aspects of The Gap, including the hiring and training process, The Gap business concept, product receiving, displaying, and marketing, and more. Interns can start immediately. Days and hours are flexible. Contact Darcy Allen at 750-2706, or come to the Career Center in N-17 for more information.

-Internship Opportunity: Davis Media Access is offering non-paid internships for students to gain hands-on experience and exposure to many aspects of community television production. Three internships are available in production and archiving. Come to the Career Center in room N-17 for internship descriptions and contact information.

-Seniors! It is time to tell your parents about yearbook senior ads. Please give them the packet that you received at the senior assembly or go to www.dhsyearbook.wordpress.com to download the forms.

-Attention: Juniors! The PSAT is coming soon!  Sign-up at lunch October 3 through October 7 in the large conference room.  The tests will be held on Saturday, October 15 from 7:45 to 11:30 am.  The cost is $24.00 and you must bring your student ID.  10th graders may sign up on Friday only.  If the fee is a hardship, please see your counselor as soon as possible to arrange for a fee waiver.  This is available on a first-come, first-serve basis only.
