TODAY
-For Lunch today we have Turkey Tinga slow-roasted in sauce over local rice, Breaded Fish and Chips or Nacho Bar with tortilla chips, taco meat, cheese and jalapenos.

-Interested in joining DHS Speech and Debate Team for 2012 - 2013? Come to the informational meeting on Tuesday, May 1st in P-23 at lunch.  There will be food and refreshments, so don't miss out.  This is a great opportunity to get involved at DHS and participate in Speech and Debate.

-Lecture Series:  Please join Greg McAlpin today, Tuesday, May 1 during the lunch hour at 12:00 noon in Room PA-8 for a discussion of a new cobalt-based water-splitting catalyst, Co-Pi.  Co-Pi enables a process to cheaply convert solar energy into H2-based fuel that can be stored indefinitely and later converted into electricity by a fuel cell.  Mr. McAlpin is a PhD candidate working under Professors R. David Britt and William Casey in the Chemistry Department at UC Davis.

- Wednesday, May 2 is Open House here at DHS.  Please join us from 6:00 to 8:00 pm for the festivities!

-Stress Tips:  Communicate, be honest with yourself and others.  Ask for what you want.  Express your true feelings when they occur.

-Do you enjoy good music and free stuff?  Then come on out to the Quad this Friday, May 4th during lunch to support the Black Student Union during anti-discrimination week.  We look forward to your support.

-Got a cool car or truck? Want to show it off?  Participate in this year's Devil Day Car Show on Tuesday, May 22nd. The show will be all day on the quad with judging at lunch. Prizes include a 2012 Car Club T-shirt and a free oil change. Applications are available in the main office or the Auto Shop classroom O-3. Applications are due May 8th, so don't wait! Show off your Devil Pride AND your cool ride at the 2012 Devil Day Car Show, Tuesday, May 22nd!

- SENIORS:  We want to know where you're going after high school! Acceptance notices from colleges are finally starting to arrive and decisions are being made about life after high school!  Come to the Career Center N-17 and sign the WHERE ARE YOU GOING?!! list and tell us if you'll be going to college, working, joining the military, traveling, studying abroad, or whatever your plans are.  See you in the Career Center soon!

-Save the Date! Thursday May 10th is a parent and player meeting to discuss the DHS Men's Basketball Spring/Summer Program.  Try-outs for 10th-11th graders are May 21-24 and May 29-31.  The program includes practice sessions 2-3 times per week and tournaments on most weekends through the end of June.  More information to come.

Students and Staff:  This Thursday the solar panel installation project in the Vet's Memorial parking lot will begin.
Key dates are: May 3-17:  There will be minor construction.  Some sections of the lot will be cordoned off.
May 18-29:  The entire lot will be closed.  Only faculty may use the North Gym-Stadium Lot.
June 1-5:  Concrete will be poured in sections.
June 7-8:  There will be no construction due to the last day of school and graduation.
June 9-13: The lot will be shut down completely.
These dates are subject to change. We encourage you to ride your bike or carpool during the construction schedule.

-Hey Blue Devils!  Come check out the Drama Department's Art Auction on May 5th at the International House!  A variety of pieces by Davis High students and nationally-acclaimed artists will be available for purchase with all proceeds will go to the Drama Department's trip to Scotland this summer.

-Hey Science Scholars, do you want to try out for the 2012 DHS teams to compete in the National Science League competition this year?  It's easy!  All you have to do is take a 40 question multiple choice test in the subjects in which you wish to compete:  Biology, Chemistry, and/or Physics.  The Biology test was given yesterday.  The physics test will be offered on Tuesday (5/1) in S-12, and the chemistry test will be offered on Wednesday in S-8.  On Friday, 5/4, you can take any one of the three tests at lunch in S-8.  Top scoring students will receive certificates or medals, and be on the DHS team.  In the past five years DHS teams have placed 1st  twice (Chem 2009 & Physics 2010), 2nd twice (Chem 2008 & Phys 2008) and 3rd once (Biology 2010).

-Dance Team Try-out week is April 30th - May 4th from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. in the Dance Room.

-Reminder to Seniors!  Please submit your small kindergarten photo for Grad Night fun!  The box for photos is in the Front Office by the black document holder.

-Interested in plant science, environmental horticulture, land restoration or biotechnology?  On Wednesday, May 2, the Davis FFA will be hosting a panel discussion with UC Davis undergrad students from those majors to answer questions about these topics.  The goal is to provide DHS students with a better understanding of the opportunities available in available to students interested in these areas of study.  Prizes, gifts and goodies provided!

-Senior Ball will be on Saturday, May 19!  Tickets are on sale now through May 11, at lunch ONLY.  Prices are as follow:  ASB/non-ASB: Week of April 30: $75/$85, Week of May 7: $90/$95.
-HEY SENIORS!  It is time to make your reservation for Grad Night!    Grad Night is Friday, June 8 from 9:30 to 5:00 am at Emerson Junior High.   No one will be admitted after midnight! Tickets are $90 and the check should be made payable to "Davis Grad Night." You can mail or scan in your kindergarten photo for the Grad Night Kindergarten Wall.  You can also mail your reservation. GRADUATION TICKET INFORMATION!
