TODAY'S EVENTS: FFA and the Floral Design class will be holding a Valentine's Day rose sale.  Through the week of 2/4 through 2/8, single rose arrangements with customizable cards will be sold for $3 in the quad at lunch.  Arrangements will be delivered on Valentine's Day during 5th period.

Latinos Unidos will be having their general meeting today, 2/4 during lunch in O-5.  Come to the meeting and earn a point needed to go on the San Francisco trip at the end of the year.  See you there!

NEW:  Reminder: Tuesday, Feb 5th we have THURSDAY block schedule and all 10th graders are to report to their assigned gym for CAHSEE testing. Even if you do not have a 1st period, you are required to arrive to testing by 745am. Students with last name A-O are in the NEW gym and P-Z are in the OLD gym.

When I say Friendship, you say YAY!  Friendship YAY! Friendship YAY! Come to Friendship Day! Turn in your permission slips by Thursday, 2/7 to the office!

JOB OPPORTUNITY:  The City of Davis has five summer job openings in their aquatics department.  Positions available are lifeguard, pool cashier, snack bar attendant, swim instructor and swim instructor aide. Come to the Career Center for a more information and a flyer for each job.

UPCOMING EVENTS:  Lecture Series - Interested in the Biomedical and Biomedical Engineering fields?  Tuesday, 2/5 at lunchtime in the Career Center, Dr. Scott Simon of UC Davis Biomedical Engineering Department will present: "Innate Immunity: Engineering Your Body's Response to Infection and Inflammation."  Dr. Simon will discuss systems that he has developed of low-cost, real time tools to study inflammatory disease progression.  Dr. Simon received his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from UC San Diego, joined UC Davis Biomedical Engineering in 1999 and rose to the rank of full Professor in 2002.  He is the current Vice Chair of the department.

Interested in a career in the medical or health professions or just want to take good care of your health?  The Teen Health Awareness Club will host Dr. Amy Chen, a Kaiser pediatrician who will lecture on "Healthy Eating" in S-5 at lunchtime on Wednesday, 2/20.  On Tuesday, 3/19 at lunchtime in S-5, Dr. Eric Fromer will lecture on "Unblemished truths for your skin care."  He will discuss information on skin cancer/melanoma, the impact of tanning, skin aging, acne and other issues like, tattooing, piercing, nail care and rashes.  He is a dermatologist at Vacaville Kaiser.  Healthy snacks will be provided!

Blue Devils! Come show your love of Valentine's Day and buy a Valentine Gram at the Finance Office at lunch starting on Tuesday, 2/5 until 2/13.  For $1, you will get a card and a piece of seasonal candy!

Do you have a message to convey through a song, poem or dance?  If so, come to Ms. Jahsi's room, L-29 on Tuesday, 2/5 during lunch to sign up to perform at the Black History Month Poetry Café hosted by the Black Student Union.   Please come with a small description of your act.  It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes.  Hope to see you there!

Latinos Unidos and the Debate Team are having a debate on Affirmative action in the IPAB on Thursday, 2/7 during lunch.  This event will count as one of the points needed to go on the San Francisco trip at the end of the school year.  Hope to see you there!

Don't forget to "Get Happy," the annual DHS Jazz Choirs Cabaret Dinner Show on Saturday, 2/ 9 and Sunday, 2/10 at Emerson Junior High School.  This event includes dinner catered by Cracchiolo's, a silent and live auction and raffle.  Tickets for adults are $40, $20 for students and available at www.dhsjazzchoir.org<http://www.dhsjazzchoir.org>.  Orders must be received by Monday, 2/4.  If you can't make it to the Cabaret Dinner show, there will be a special concert on Valentine's Day, 2/14 at the Brunelle Theatre at 7:00 pm.  Tickets are available at the door for $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.

Class officer applications are now available in C-4 and are due Friday, 2/8 in C-4.  If you are interested in serving as class president, treasurer, secretary, club commission or other offices, please pick up an application.

If you are a junior interested in government, come to the Career Center and apply for the American legion Boys State and Girls State all-expenses paid summer programs.  Participants will actively create and run a working government.  Applicants must be strong academically, have leadership skills and be interested in community and government.  The Boys State will be held June 22-29.  Girls State will be held June 22-29.  Applications are available in the Career Center and the deadline to apply is February 6.

The California State Summer School for the Arts is accepting applications from talented artists, writers and performers for its premier summer program at the California Institute of the Arts from July 13 - August 9.  Instruction is offered in animation, film and video, creative writing, dance, music, theater and visual arts.  Deadline to apply is February 28.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

Sophomores and Juniors:  Interested in doing research at UC Davis this summer?  The UC Davis Young Scholars Program offers summer research opportunities in biology and the natural sciences for high achieving high school students.  Applications are due April 1.  Come to the Career Center for more information and application.
