The Last day to submit portfolios for the 2013-14 AP Art Studio classes is today, Friday, 2/15.  Turn in portfolios to any art teacher.  For questions, see Ms. Diem in A-6 or A-1.

Turn in your Key Club Officer applications by this Friday in S-12!  Elections will be held next Wednesday, 2/20!

Saturday:  Come, celebrate Black History Month at the Black History Poetry Café hosted by the Black Student Union 2/16 from 6:00-8:00 pm in the IPAB.  There will be a wide variety of dance, poetry and spoken word.  Chipotle burritos and other items will be for sale as well.  See you there!

NEW:  Take advantage of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity   to shadow a city official by applying for Youth in Government.  Applications are available for all juniors and seniors in C-4 and due 3/1.

SENIORS:  March 2 is the deadline to apply for FAFSA and Cal Grants.  Don't miss out on getting free money for college!  Come to the Career Center if you have any questions or would like more information about these programs.

Please support the DHS Concert, Symphonic, Jazz and Pep Bands and enjoy a pizza on Wed. Feb 27th from 4 - 9 p.m. at Lamppost Pizza in West Davis.   30% of the proceeds of the pizzas will be donated to the Band program to support their upcoming spring trip to Disneyland.  The fundraiser applies to eat in and take out orders. Just mention the DHS Bands.

All are invited for a night of great pizza during the evening of Davis Senior High School's Open House to raise funds for the Madrigals, 2/28 from 4:00 until 9:00 at Lamppost Pizza, 1260 Lake Blvd., Davis.  30% of the proceeds of the pizzas will be donated to the Madrigals to support their historic tour of Italy, including Rome and the Vatican this spring.  The fundraiser applies to eat in and take out orders.  Mention the Madrigals when calling in!


DHS Bands Present "An Evening at Coconut Grove" on Saturday March 9, 2013, in the Emerson MPR.

Join us for a family friendly evening of music, dinner (catered by Dos Coyotes), desserts, tropical mocktails, and silent auction with fabulous prizes.  Featuring the Davis High School Jazz Band, Harper and DEH (DaVinci, Emerson, Holmes) Jr. High Jazz Bands, The J Street Jazz Cats, Sax by Popular Demand, and the Crazy Eights.

ONGOING/UPCOMING EVENTS:  Have you ever wanted to see your teacher kiss a goat?  All this week, ask if your teachers are participating in the Davis FFA's Kiss the Goat Contest.  The teacher with the most money in their jar on 2/22 will be kissing the goat at lunch in the quad!

LECTURE SERIES: Interested in a career in the medical or health professions or just want to take good care of your health?  The Teen Health Awareness Club will host Dr. Amy Chen, a Kaiser pediatrician who will lecture on "Healthy Eating" in S-5 at lunchtime on Wednesday, 2/20.

If you are a junior interested in pursuing a career in the energy resources industry, Chevron and the USC School of Engineering is hosting a free summer camp June 23 - 28.  This exciting opportunity is to introduce high school juniors to careers in fields such as fossil fuels, solar, biofuel, nuclear energy and information technologies.  The deadline to apply is April 19.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

Have you wondered what it's like to be a civil engineer?  If so, come to the Career Center on Wednesday, 2/20 at lunch to hear a presentation by a Civil Engineer from Cunningham Engineering who will discuss the exciting career opportunities in the field of civil engineering.

NHS Registration began on 2/12 and runs through 2/22 in front of S-12 during lunch.  To register, you need to bring $5, your first semester grades with a GPA of 3.4 minimum and your completed semester hours log.

HUB applications for business manager, graphic artist and photographer are now available outside L-20 and are due no later than 3/4.  Students who share their skills without award-winning publications develop a portfolio that will help them in college and beyond.  Join us!

CSFers, the Spring 2013 registration for CSF has begun and runs for two weeks!  Come to Ms. O'Brien's room, P-13 during lunch with your completed pink registration sheet (found in the library/front office/P-13), grade report from the mail, hour sheet and $5.  No applications will be accepted after lunchtime on 2/22/13.

DHS Choir Auditions: 3/18-3/22/13   Audition applications are available on the websites: Advanced Treble Choir www.dhstreblechoir.org<http://www.dhstreblechoir.org>, Jazz Choir www.dhsjazzchoir.org<http://www.dhsjazzchoir.org>.   Madrigals  www.davismadrigals.com<http://www.davismadrigals.com>.  All choir audition applications must be postmarked by Monday, 2/25/13.  The applicants will be notified by email on or before Monday, 3/4 of their scheduled audition.

The DHS Blue and White Foundation is currently accepting applications for the Student Activity Grant Program.  The goal of the program is to enhance the high school experience for any current DHS student.  Any DHS student may apply for funding to support curricular or extra-curricular activities including academic conferences, sports training camps, fine art workshops, tutoring, extracurricular school essentials (i.e. costuming, sports equipment, musical instruments), etc.  Applications are reviewed on a case-by- case basis and all grant awards will depend on the merit of the requests, the number of applicants and availability of funding.  The Student Activity Grant Program is for individual students only; applications can be submitted online at www.dhsblueandwhite.org<http://www.dhsblueandwhite.org>.
