THIS DAY IN HISTORY:  1827 - New Orleans held its first Mardi Gras celebration.

LUNCH CHOICES:   Teriyaki Chicken, Beef or Tofu or Bean Feast over steamed rice.

TODAY:   Week of Kindness began this week!  Today, Wednesday, come out to make your "free hug" shirt that you should wear on Thursday!  Show your kindness by buying a "We all can be Kind" bro tank outside of A-5 all week for $12.00.  It's the perfect way to remember Week of Kindness!

Please support the DHS Concert, Symphonic, Jazz and Pep Bands and enjoy pizza on Wed. Feb 27th from 4 - 9 p.m. at Lamppost Pizza in West Davis.   The fundraiser applies to eat in and take out orders. Just mention the DHS Bands.

Attention Key Clubbers!  Wednesday, 2/27 there will be an election meeting in Mr. Richardson's room, S-12 at lunch.

To all future AVID students:  Applications for the AVID elective class are due today, Wednesday, 2/27 in O-4 to Mr. Curley.  Don't forget to indicate the day that is best for your interview!

NEW:  Mr. Blue Devil Applications are due on Friday, March 1 in C-4.  Come by to pick one up in C-4.

Make a difference! Come to the UNICEF meeting this Friday at lunch in P-20.

It's College Tour time!  The City of Davis is planning the annual So-Cal Safari College Tour for high school students the week of April 4-7.  The tour covers five major universities in Southern California to help teens make the important decision about where to apply.  The tour includes UC Santa Cruz, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, UC Santa Barbara, University of Southern California and UCLA.    Cost is $490 and includes transportation, college tours, breakfast, dinner and hotels.  Come to the Career Center or go to www.davisteenscene.org<http://www.davisteenscene.org> for more information! Interested in aviation?  The Aerospace Museum of California is sponsoring a 4-day Aerospace Summer Camp for students, ages 13 - 17.  Each participant will take a short flight with a registered pilot! ONGOING/UPCOMING EVENTS:  SENIORS:  March 2 is the deadline to apply for FAFSA and Cal Grants.  Don't miss out on getting free money for college!  Come to the Career Center if you have any questions or would like more information about these programs.

Students who would like to participate in a debrief on our Lockdown last Thursday are invited to the library between 2-3 pm on Thursday, February 28th to discuss this with the principal, Dr. Moore and our School Resource officer, Officer Ellsworth.

OPEN HOUSE:  Learn about course offerings for next year.  February 28 (Thursday) - 5-7 pm

Attention Juniors:  Information about the EAP (Early Assessment Program) went home last week.  The EAP will be held before school on Wednesday, March 6th.  Sign-up early; deadline is this Friday, March 1.

Attention AP students: AP test are available for purchase now online at the DSHS WebStore. This allows payment via credit or debit card. In person sales with cash or check will be during lunch only Monday, March 11- Friday, March 15. Online sales will end on Friday, March 15th at 4pm.

Support the Madrigals Trip to Italy!  Enjoy a pizza on 2/28 from 4:00 until 9:00 at Lamppost Pizza.  The fundraiser applies to eat in and take out orders.  Mention the Madrigals when calling in!

Do you have the heart to care not just for yourself or your friends, but also for others may be in need? Do you have the compassion to be there for someone who needs you to just listen? Do you have the strength to keep what you hear and see to yourself, to never gossip about someone you help?  If this is you, consider joining the LEAD team for the 2013-14 school year.  Pick up an application in Mr. Elliott's room L-25.  Applications are due back to Mr. Elliott by March 4.
Do you wish you could bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and everyone would eat it and be happy?  If you do, YOU should apply to be a Friendship Day Facilitator!  Come to Mr. Williams' room P-14 on 3/6 at lunch for an informational meeting.

HUB applications for business manager, graphic artist and photographer are now available outside L-20 and are due no later than 3/4.  Students who share their skills without award-winning publications develop a portfolio that will help them in college and beyond.  Join us!

DHS Bands Present "An Evening at Coconut Grove" on Saturday March 9, 2013, in the Emerson MPR. Join us for a family friendly evening of music, dinner (catered by Dos Coyotes), desserts, tropical mocktails, and silent auction with fabulous prizes.  Featuring the Davis High School Jazz Band, Harper and DEH (DaVinci, Emerson, and Holmes) Jr. High Jazz Bands, The J Street Jazz Cats, Sax by Popular Demand, and the Crazy Eights.
