THIS DAY IN HISTORY:
In a televised message, President John F. Kennedy<http://www.history.com/topics/john-f-kennedy> announced to the American public that U.S. spy planes discovered Soviet missile bases in Cuba. These missile sites housed medium-range missiles capable of striking a number of major cities in the United States<http://www.history.com/topics/states>.  What became known as the Cuban Missile Crisis<http://www.history.com/topics/cuban-missile-crisis> actually began on October 15, 1962-the day that U.S. intelligence personnel actually discovered the missile sites.

Don't forget to purchase a Boo Treat "aka Halloween gram" from the Black Student Union starting tomorrow, Wednesday. They will be for sale in the quad for $2.00 each. Make sure you know the 3rd period class of the person to whom you are sending the gram ~

The Gay-Straight Alliance will meet this Friday in L-28, upstairs, above the library.  One goal of the GSA is to be a Safe Haven for all students.  Come join us!

Interested in being on the DHS Wrestling Team? A player/parent information night will be held Wednesday, October 22 at 6:30pm in DHS Room N-08. Questions contact Coach Ty Brown

DHS Student Leaders of clubs, booster groups, ASB: Friday, October 25, is the deadline for submitting information and articles for the November 2013 DHS PTA newsletter. Please send news, announcements, etc. to the DHS PTA Media Listserv at DHSPTAmedia at mailman.dcn.org<mailto:DHSPTAmedia at mailman.dcn.org> and include your name and a parent or faculty name and contact information (e-mail address and phone number) in case the newsletter editor has questions about your submission. Also, please be sure to include a teacher or parent contact and his/her phone number or e-mail address. The newsletter is generally available around the 1st of each month. This is a great way to inform, notify or enlist parents' help for upcoming DHS school and student activities.

Clubs! If you want your club photo in the yearbook, pick up a form in P-21 to sign-up for a time. Turn in your form by November 1st and its first come, first served, so don't wait!

Seniors! Senior ad deadlines are approaching - the 1st one is Friday for 1/8 of a page. Have your parents order online at dhsyearbook.com or pick up a form in Mr. Achimore's room P-21.

An exchange with a German school is planned for the spring and summer of 2014. If you are interested, please come to see Mrs. Floyd, N-2. You do not need to speak German to participate.

College visits continue throughout October!  Go to Naviance or come to the Career Center to see the list of college visits.  Upcoming college visits include Cal Poly, Willamette, Oregon State, Scripps, and more!

Play Rugby!   Boys' Rugby is back at Davis High School for its second season.  No one is too big or too small to play, and no experience is necessary.  Come hear more at an introductory meeting for parents and 9th-12th grade players on Thursday, November 7th from 7:00 p m to 8:00 pm in the DHS Library. CABIN LEADER'S are needed for North Davis Elementary School's trip to Walker Creek on January 6-10. Cabin leaders must work well with children, and have an outgoing personality with an enthusiasm for the outdoors. Applications are available in the Career Center and must be submitted to North Davis by November 6.

The DHS Language Tutors Club will be accepting tutor applications, which are available in language classrooms throughout the year. Turn in applications in room N-2. Remember, tutoring hours count as community service hours.
