THIS DAY IN HISTORY:  1866 - Lucy B. Hobbs became the first woman to graduate from a dental school.
The school was the Ohio College of Dental Surgery in Cincinnati.

TODAY'S BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION: Lemuel Haynes was a Revolutionary War Veteran, the
first black  minister to serve a white congregation and the first black scholar to receive an Honorary
Degree (Master of Arts) from a white college, Middlebury College on this day in 1804!

Attention Spring Athletes! Information about tryouts is posted on the Athletics Office window and on
the DHS website. Please note:  the Spring Break for Davis schools does not align with the rest of the
schools in our league. Many spring sports WILL have games/matches over our Spring Break.

TODAY: Join us tonight, Friday in the North Gym from 9:00 to midnight for the Free Barnyard Bash!
What's better than a free dance with a free photo booth, free food and free boogies?  See you there!

Today is the day to watch the winning teacher Kiss the Goat!  Come to the quad at lunchtime!

DHS orchestra placement auditions are due today, February 21st!  The final audition schedule will be
posted Monday, February 24th.

ACADEMICS/COLLEGE INFO:  AVID is college readiness.  Are you motivated to improve your academic
skills and enjoy collaborating with your peers?  Do you have questions about college admission?  If this
sounds like you, please consider applying for the 2014-2015 AVID Elective Class.  Applications are
available from Ms. Christiansen in N-1 or Mr. Curley in O-4 or in the counseling office.  AVID students
improve our school!

SENIORS:  March 2 is the deadline to apply for FAFSA and Cal Grants.  Don't miss out on getting free
money for college!  If you have any questions about either of these programs, come to the Career
Center this week!

WOULD YOU LIKE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT SACRAMENTO CITY COLLEGE?  If so, a Sacramento City
College representative will be in the Career Center on Tuesday, February 25 at lunch to answer all your
questions about attending Sac City.

AP test sales are open at the Webstore.  $95.00/test, no refunds.  Sales end Friday, March 7.

CLUBS/EVENTS:  Do you love philosophy and history? Is so, you may want to join the Philosophy Club at
lunch on Monday, February 24th.  Join us and guest speaker, Professor Copp as we explore history and
philosophy.  Everyone is welcome!

Do you have issues?  Well, the HUB sure does...In fact we have 11 of them!  If you are interested in
photography, graphic art, or web management, pick up an application in O-1 today and help the HUB
make issues for the whole school!

Ever wanted to display your artwork?  If so, Expressionfest is accepting artwork submissions for the
March festival!  Be sure to pick up and submit an application in L-25, Mr. Elliott's room!

Have nothing to do at lunch next Wednesday?  Well, join the Black Student Union on the quad for music,
face painting, henna tattoos and performances to celebrate Black History Month!  Remember, it's next
Wednesday at lunch on the quad.  See you there!

Register for CSF now through February 28!  Bring in your pink sheet, 1st semester report card and $5.00
to Ms. O'Brien's room, P-13 during lunch to join CSF.  Sign up this week to avoid the later traffic!

Tuesday, February 25th is the deadline for submitting information and articles for the March 2014 DHS
PTA Newsletter.  Please send news, announcements, etc. to the DHS PTA Media Listserve at
DHSPTAmedia at mailman.dcn.org and include your name, parent or faculty name and contact
information (email address and phone number) in case the newsletter editor has questions regarding
your submission.  Be sure to include teacher/parent contact with phone number or email address.  This
is a great way to inform, notify or enlist parents' help for upcoming DHS school and student activities.

Do you know what you want to do after graduation?  Do you want to learn a new trade, start an exciting
career but don't know where to start?  If so, come to the Rotary career Day, Saturday, March 8 from
8:30 am - noon at Giedt Hall on the UC Davis campus.  Trade and business experts will teach students
about business etiquette, teamwork, resume writing, interviewing skills and using social media.  There
will be a skit performed by high school students, discussions about career choices and opportunities to
sign up for job shadowing.  Prizes and pizza provided to participants!  Come to the Career Center to sign
up or email Susanne Rockwell at sgrockwell at sbcglobal.net.

What are the responsibilities of a High School Principal?  What about a School Board Representative?
Find out by picking up a Youth in Government application in C-4.  Applications are due Friday, February
28th in C-4.

Have you bought your yearbook yet?  Make sure to order your yearbook soon.  There are only a small
number left!  You can confirm your order by checking the list posted in the library's window.

The Davis Homeless Shelter Needs YOUR Help!  Throughout February DHS will be collecting items for the
Davis Homeless shelter.   ITEMS NEEDED:   SOAP    SHAMPOO    LOTION   CANNED FOOD There is a drop
off bin for donations located in the main office.   Check postings around school for more information.
