THIS DAY IN HISTORY:  1827 - New Orleans held its first Mardi Gras celebration.

TODAY'S BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION:  On this day in Black History, figure skater Debi Thomas
became the first African American to win a medal at the Winter Olympic Games in 1988.

LUNCH CHOICES: Daily Options:  Charbroiled Style Cheeseburger, Chicken Sandwich, Pizza, Chicken
Caesar Salad, Grilled Chipotle Turkey Panini Sandwich (Pesto, Mozzarella, Tomato), Spicy Chicken,

ATHLETICS:  Attention Spring ILS students:  both the ILS Application and Course Packet cover sheet must
be turned in by Friday, February 28th   in order to officially be enrolled in ILS.  If you are still missing one
of these 2 sheets, or both, they must be turned into the "ILS turn-in" tray in the front office.  Email Ms.
Crawford with questions.
ACADEMICS/COLLEGE INFO:  Attention graduating class of 2014!!! Have you ordered your cap, gown,
and tassel?  It's not too late, there is still time to place your order.  All orders must be placed online, as
this will ensure timely delivery.  Please see Mrs. Perez in the Administration office for any questions or

Attention Juniors- Friday (2/28) is the last day to sign up for EAP (Early Assessment Program). If you
might be headed to a CSU- this could be a valuable step in your college journey! If you have questions,
please see your counselor or Testing Coordinator immediately.

If you would like to be a part of the 2014-15 LEAD class, now is the time to apply.  You can pick up
applications outside of room L-25.  They are due to Mr. Elliott by Friday, 2/28.  If you have any
questions, talk to Mr. Elliott.

SENIORS:  March 2 is the deadline to apply for FAFSA and Cal Grants.  Don't miss out on getting free
money for college!  If you have any questions about either of these programs, come to the Career
Center this week!

Attention AP Students: buy your AP tests online at the webstore now! $95/test, no refunds. Check our
website, collegeboard.com or the AP bulletin for the schedule. See the Testing Coordinator for
questions. If you're in need of financial assistance, see your counselor immediately.

SENIORS:  It's scholarship time! If you would like free money for college, then you should apply for
scholarships! Nineteen local scholarships were just added to the Scholarship Bulletin, and many are just
for seniors graduating from a Davis high school!  Come to the Career Center to find out more about
these and many other scholarships now available!

SENIORS:  If you're planning to attend UCD, have a minimum GPA of 3.5, and you worked at a job during
high school, you may qualify for the $13,230 Beeghly-Merritt Scholarship!  The deadline to apply is April
4.  Applications are now available in the Career Center.

Do you want to be a bystander in the game of life or do you want to write your own destiny?  Make
history as a part of the DHS Yearbook team.  Pick up an application in P-21 and submitted by March 7th
for your chance to roll with the lions.

CLUBS/EVENTS:  World Music Club meeting this Friday in P-22.  Bring $15.00 if you haven't paid for your
t-shirt.

What do you call a pile of kittens? A meowtain! What do you call a pile of friendship?  FRIENDSHIP DAY!
If you're interested in being a facilitator next year, come to our informational meeting this Friday at
lunch in P-14!  We 'cat' wait to see you!  Not even 'kitten' you!

The Teen Health Awareness and Healthcare Career Clubs would like to invite you to join us in the Career
Center at lunchtime on Friday, February 28th to hear three UC Davis students, Colin Slocum, Miki Saito
and Isabelle Tran discuss "Healthy Aggies: An Introduction to Health and Wellness in College;"  a general
information session on fitness, nutrition and cooking in a college setting will be provided.  The students
will also be available for a question and answer session about selecting a university, college lifestyle and
academics.  We hope to see you there!

JOB OPPORTUNITY:  King Properties has an opening for a part time clerical position.  Duties include
filing, answering phones, mailing and copying. Hours are flexible during the school year.  Pay is $8.75 per

What are the responsibilities of a High School Principal?  What about a School Board Representative?
Find out by picking up a Youth in Government application in C-4.  Applications are due Friday, February
28th in C-4.

Last chance to submit art for the DHS Expressionfest!  Be sure to take an application and turn it in to L-
25!  We are accepting all forms of art, including film, music, creative writing and other forms.  Come to
L-25 and pick up an application!

This is your last week to register for CSF.  Come to Ms. O'Brien's room, P-13 at lunch with your pink
sheet, first semester grades and $5 to register.  Don't wait until the last minute!

Do you have issues?  Well, the HUB sure does...In fact we have 11 of them!  If you are interested in
photography, graphic art, or web management, pick up an application in O-1 today and help the HUB
make issues for the whole school!  Applications are due Friday, 2/28th!

"An Evening at the Coconut Grove" is at 5:30 p.m. on March 8 at the Emerson Junior High School.
(NOTE: Reservations close on March 3.) Tickets are $40, (students $20). Get 'em while they're still
available.  We sell out every year! Coconut Grove features a silent auction and the award-winning Davis
High School Jazz Band, Sax by Popular Demand, The J Street Jazz Cats, Ten 'Til Midnight, and the Harper

Grad Night 2014 Update - February 2014: Ticket Sales are strong....approximately 45% of Davis High
students have already purchased their tickets. There is a list of students who have purchased tickets at
front desk in the DHS office. If you don't  remember if you have purchased your ticket, please check the
list for your name. For those of you who have not yet purchased a ticket, please go to davisgradnight.org
and either purchase online or download the ticket form and mail in your check. The cost per ticket is $90
and covers everything - all Grad Night events, activities, food/drink and prizes!  Scholarship tickets are
available through the counseling office as well.  Don't delay, the cost goes up if you wait until June!
*             This is a ticketless event; once your registration has been processed, you will receive an email
confirmation and your name will be added to the list of attendees. If you have questions please email
tickets at davisgradnight.org and our ticket team will be happy to help.

*             Once you have purchased a ticket, please remember to submit your  Kindergarten picture for
the "Kinder Wall." We want every senior who attends to find their picture on the Kinder Wall. If you
don't have an official school picture, just submit an appropriate photo taken during your Kindergarten
year. For more information about where to submit or if there are questions about pictures, please go to

The Davis Homeless Shelter Needs YOUR Help!  Throughout February DHS will be collecting items for the
Davis Homeless shelter.   ITEMS NEEDED:   SOAP    SHAMPOO    LOTION   CANNED FOOD There is a drop
off bin for donations located in the main office.   Check postings around school for more information.
