THIS DAY IN HISTORY:  1930 - Charles Creighton and James Hagris completed the drive from New York
City to Los Angeles and back to New York City all in reverse gear. The trip took 42 days in their 1929 Ford
Model A.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:  The DHS Council is looking for dedicated students to join our committee.
The Site Council consists of Principal Brown, staff, parents and students.   The Site Council discusses
ways to improve student achievement and supports new programs at its monthly meetings.  If you
would like to help shape the future of our school, please pick up an application from Vice Principal
McHale in the office by Tuesday, September 9.  Applications are due by noon on Wednesday, September
10.

TODAY: Sophomores!  If you are interested in building the Sophomore float for the Homecoming
Parade, we will have an informational meeting today,  Friday, September 5th at lunchtime in Room C-4!

Seniors! Want to help plan the float for Homecoming Parade?  Come to Mr. Achimore's  room, P-21
today at lunch time to discuss building the float and have treats!

The Gay-Straight Alliance will have the first gathering of the year today, Friday at lunch in L-28, Mr.
Wheeler's classroom.  An element of GSA is to create safe environments in schools for students to
support each other and learn about homophobia, transphobia, and other oppressions.  All Blue Devils
are welcome to attend.

ACADEMICS: INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY:  Congressman John Garamendi's office is offering an eight
week Student Activist Campaign Internship Program for high school students.  Interns will participate in
community outreach and plan campaign events.  Come to the Career Center on Monday, September 8
at lunch to hear a Garamendi representative describe the internship program and to sign up!

Davis Senior High School's Career Center is open!  The Career Center provides support and resources for
college planning, scholarships, financial aid, jobs, volunteer opportunities, summer activities, test
preparation, study abroad programs, and more!  Students and parents are welcome to visit the Career
Center located behind the theater Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

College visits begin in the Career Center on Monday September 8!  Dates and times of college visits are
posted outside the Career Center and on Naviance.  Students must sign up on Naviance prior to
attending a college visit, and must check in with their teacher before leaving class to attend a visit.
Come to the Career Center if you need help with Naviance!
CLUBS/EVENTS:  The German Club meets every Monday at lunch in N-2.  Come to our first meeting to
make posters, elect officers and discuss this year's activities.  No knowledge of German required.  There
will be cake!

Our very first festival of the school year, the Chinese Moon Festival is coming up on Monday, September
8.  Come to the Quad at lunchtime and join the Chinese Club for games, prizes and information for new
officer elections.

You are invited to the introductory meeting of the Model United Nations Club.  Please come to P-25 next
Tuesday, September 9th at lunch.  This club looks at international events and problems.  As a team, we
act as diplomats at conferences around the state where UN topics are debated.

Juniors!  Interested in building the Junior Class Homecoming Float? Come to S-7 on Tuesday, September
9 to start planning our Egyptian-Mythology-themed float!

Are you interested in health care and community service? Then come join us at the first meeting of the
DHS Health Awareness Club on Tuesday September 9th during lunch in S5. This club allows students to
take action on their interests in health by setting up innovative events to successfully educate our peers.

The Guitar Club meets on Tuesday at 12:00 in Room P-22.

The DHS Car Club is holding its first meeting at lunch on Thursday, Sept 11th in O-3. You are invited! The
DHS car club is for students interested in anything automotive.  In the past, the club has taken trips the
K1 racing center in Sacramento and organized parties for his members here in campus. The club has
access to the DHS auto shop, including its project cars and equipment.  In the spring, we will be
organizing the Devil Day Car Show, so be on the lookout for that. Hope to you at car club this year

Let's go clubbing!  New and continuing club applications are available on the student government
website and in C-4.  They are due back in C-4 by Friday, September 12th.  If you have questions about
starting a club, come to C-4 at lunch on Wednesday, September 10th.

Are you interested in being a Walker Creek CABIN LEADER?  If so, cabin leaders are needed for Pioneer
Elementary.  Cabin leaders must work well with children and have an outgoing personality with an
enthusiasm for the outdoors. Guys are encouraged to apply!  Applications are available in the Career Center.

Attention all DHS instrumental soloists:  The annual DHS Orchestra Concerto Competition traditionally
held in January will instead be held on Wednesday, November 19th 2014 at 7:00pm on stage in the DHS
Brunelle Performance Hall. It is open to all DHS instrumentalists and free to the public to view. The
competition winner will be given the honor of performing with the DHS Symphony Orchestra at the
Mondavi Center in Jackson Hall at the Wennberg Music Festival on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at
2:30pm as well as a check for $300.00. A sign-up sheet and informational flyer will be posted in early
September on the window of the computer lab in PA-3. It is important to start to plan for this event now
and begin preparing your solos ASAP.  Email Mr. Moreno if you have questions at amoreno at djusd.net
