THIS DAY IN HISTORY:  1916 - Adelina and August Van Buren finished the first successful
transcontinental motorcycle tour to be attempted by two women. They started in New York City on July
5, 1916.

Student Sophia Lu is curating a show of Davis Senior High student artwork as a fundraiser for Senese Inclusive Education so that Somoan students
may receive on line learning assistance.  Please join her at the Art Opening Reception on Friday, Sept 12 at the Davis Art Center.  The reception will
take place from 6-8pm.  Everyone is invited!

Seniors! This Friday, September 12th during Lunch, join counselors in the South Gym to review the
Private Colleges' application process.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Davis Media Access is offering a four-month, non-paid internship where
students can gain hands-on experience and exposure to many aspects of community television
production.  Interns must be at least 16 years old and able to work 3-6 hours per week.  The deadline to
apply is today, September 12.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Picture make-up day is Tuesday, September 30th in the Library, W.
Classroom from 9:00 am - 2:30 pm.

ACADEMICS:  Attention Juniors: PSAT is coming next month! Orange half sheet postcards went home
over the weekend giving details for the test and dates to register. Online sales begin Monday,
September 15th. If any student (11th grade only) feels this is a financial burden, please contact your
counselor immediately.

SENIORS:  There will be another float building meeting on Tuesday, September 16th in Mr. Achimore's
room during lunch.  Stop by to share your ideas and pick up a brownie!

Seniors! Make sure you're thinking about Senior Ads!  Order by October 31st to get the Early Bird
Special price! Contact Mr. Achimore in P-21 with any questions!

CLUBS/EVENTS: Hey math and science tutors! MAST - Math and Science Tutors Club is having a meeting
at lunch on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 in S-9, Mr. Van Muyden's room.  Any juniors or seniors
interested in tutoring in math or science are welcome!
Hey Key Clubbers! Registration is going on today, at lunch in front of S-12.  It will be running until
Thursday, September 25th.  Make sure to bring your registration form and $11.50 to register.  Former
members should also bring their spring hours sheet.  Forms will also be available in S-12 and at
registration.

Interested in math?  Want to compete in and host math competitions?  Teach math to elementary
school students?  Join Mu Alpha Theta!  Our first meeting will be held Friday, September 19th.  See you
there!

The German Club meets every Monday at lunch in N-2.  Come to our first meeting to make posters, have
elections and discuss this year's activities.  No knowledge of German is required.

Do you enjoy fast-paced competition?  Do you like science?  Join Science Bowl!  Science Bowl is an
academic competition similar to Jeopardy.  Our first meeting will be on Monday, September 15th at
lunch in S-11.

Interested in being a Walker Creek CABIN LEADER?  Cabin leaders are needed for Pioneer Elementary.
Cabin leaders must work well with children, and have an outgoing personality with an enthusiasm for
the outdoors. Guys are encouraged to apply!  Applications are available in the Career Center.
