'Kiss the Pig!'  Come join the fun!

UC Davis is hosting Financial Aid Awareness Week, February 17th-20th on the UCD Campus.  Financial aid professionals
will be available to help students and parents complete FAFSA or DREAM Act applications.  Come to the Career Center

Davis High School Choir Auditions will be held Monday, March 9th through Thursday, March 12th. The deadline to apply
has been extended to Monday, February 23rd. DHS Advanced Treble Choir, Madrigals, and Jazz Choir are great
opportunities to demonstrate and develop your singing and performance skills. ATC is a girls' choir that sings music
ranging from classical to modern pop styles. Jazz Choir performs American Jazz Standards, Contemporary Acappella,
Swing, and Broadway styles.  Madrigals perform music from the Renaissance to contemporary choral and acappella
styles. All of our groups take annual spring tours to exciting destinations that offer amazing musical and cultural learning

Applications are now available for the Youth in Government program, an exciting opportunity for high school students to
shadow local government officials in the City of Davis and Yolo County.  Applications are in Room C-9 and are due on
March 4th.

Want to be part of preserving DHS history?  Apply now to be a part of the 2016 yearbook staff.  Applications are
available in P-21 and are due to Mr. Achimore by March 6th.  Email dachimore at djusd.net with questions or concerns.

Interested in volunteering to build a school in Nicaragua this summer?  Join us for Information Night and learn about the
program Seeds of Learning (SOL) on Monday, February 23 from 7:00-8:15 pm in the DHS Library.  Each year, groups of
Davis teachers, students and parents travel to Nicaragua for 10 days to build a school.  The trip is scheduled for August
3rd - 14th, 2015.  Niki Reina-Guerra (5th grade teacher, Willett) and Jenny Decker are the leaders.  We can have up to 23
people in the group.  Read more at www.seedsoflearning.org or call Ms. Decker at 530-574-0335.  This is a fantastic
opportunity for Spanish immersion, cultural exchange, some hard work and an all-around once-in-a-lifetime trip.
Spanish speaking is not necessary; join us!

If you are interested in attending Sacramento City College or American River College next fall, attend their free Saturday
enrollment events. Representatives at each school will guide you step by step through the enrollment process that
makes applying easy!  Space is limited, so sign up soon!  Come to the Career Center for information on how to register
for the Saturday sessions.

The City of Davis is planning its annual So-Cal College Tour Trip for high school students.  Colleges to be toured are UC
Santa Cruz, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, UC Santa Barbara, University of Southern California and UCLA.  The trip will take
place the week of March 23-26.  Cost is $515 which includes transportation, college tours, breakfast, dinner and hotels.
Come to the Career Center for more information.

CLUBS/EVENTS:  Cancer Awareness Club Fact of the Week: 50% is the lifetime risk of developing cancer for a man in the
United States.  Come to N-12 this Friday for a meeting.  We will be discussing the current clothing drive and other
upcoming events.

National Honors Society registration is taking place next week in room S-12 until Friday, February 27th. Bring $5.00 and
your school ID to register.

DHS Student Leaders of Clubs, Booster Groups, ASB: Monday, February 23rd is the deadline for submitting information
and articles for the March 2015 DHS PTA Newsletter.  Please send news, announcements, etc. to the DHS PTA Media
Listserve at DHSPTAmedia at mailman.dcn.org. Please include your name and a parent/faculty name and contact
information (email address and phone number) for questions about your submission. The newsletter is generally
available around the 1st of each month and is a great way to inform, notify or enlist parents' help for upcoming DHS
school and student activities.
