THIS DAY IN HISTORY:  1965 Civil rights activist Jimmie Lee Jackson died from wounds inflicted by state troopers during a freedom march in Marion, Alabama on February 18, 1965.  Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke at Mr. Jackson's funeral saying Mr. Jackson was "a martyred hero of a holy crusade for freedom and human dignity."

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS:  AP tests can be purchased two ways: Tests are $97 each. DSHS WebStore:  Tests are available for purchase at the DSHS WebStore now through March 13.  You can pay SECURELY with your credit or debit card and receive instant email conformation of your payment.  Find the link "Pay Online" at the DHS website, dhs.djusd.k12.ca.us.  Go to the Department "AP Tests" for all the tests available to purchase. Please don't wait until the "last minute" to purchase- there may be delays resolving WebStore logon difficulties March 11 to 13.  On campus sales, accepting cash and check payment, will take place from March 2 to March 6 during lunch only in the Finance Office.  Contact Cheryl Ozga, cozga at djusd.net, if you have questions about WebStore or on-site sales. Contact tmchale at djusd.net, if you have questions about AP tests.  If you are a student in need of financial assistance, please contact your counselor immediately.
SENIORS:  If you're planning to attend UCD, have a minimum GPA of 3.5, and you worked at a job during high school, you may qualify for the $13,921 Beeghly-Merritt Scholarship!  The deadline to apply is April 3!  Applications are now available in the Career Center.

TODAY:  Open House:  Thursday, February 26 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm.  Learn about course offerings for next year, view student performances, and enjoy Student Government's great bar-b-que.

It's FFA Week! Come on out to the quad for Name That Veggie today and our fundraiser 'Kiss the Pig' on Friday!  Don't forget to donate to your favorite teacher and come out to watch them kiss the pig!

Hello CSFers!  Registration for the spring semester is this week at lunch in P-13.  The deadline to apply is February 27th. Please bring your last semester report card, the pink sheet, $5 and a green sheet if you are an active, returning member.  Have a great day!

ACADEMICS/CAREERS/OPPORTUNITIES: Are you interested in attending Sacramento State University?  If so, come to the Career Center on Friday, February 27 at lunch to hear a Sac State representative talk about what it's like to attend Sac State, how to apply, financial aid, living on campus, the different majors offered, and more!  See you in the Career Center at lunch on Friday!

The Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Club (SISTEM) is hosting a guest speaker this Friday, February 27th during lunch in Room N-7.  Come and hear Kathryn Cook, a former DHS student and a systems engineer and project manager at Boeing speak about her career!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:  The Hub needs new photographers, graphic designers, business managers, a Webmaster and a Director of Community Engagement for next year's staff.  If interested in any of these positions, applications are available on the door of O-1.  Applications are due this Friday.

Applications are available for the Youth in Government program, an exciting opportunity for high school students to shadow local government officials in the City of Davis and Yolo County.  Applications are in Room C-9 and are due on March 4th.

CLUBS/EVENTS:   Come see the DHS Spring play 'The Liar.'   "All the world's a stage and all the men and women are merely liars..." Opening night is March 6th at 7:00 p m with performances following on March 7th, 12th,13th  and 14th at 7:00.  There will be an additional performance on March 8th at 2:00 pm.

There will be a meeting of the Ronald McDonald House Charities Club this Friday, February 27th at noon in Room PA-8.  Learn about volunteer opportunities and enjoy yummy cookies!

Calling all tall, dark and handsome senior boys! Mr. Blue Devil applications are available in C-4 and are due Friday, March 6th.  Come pick one up and fill it out if you would like to be Davis High's next King of the School!

National Honors Society registration is taking place next week in room S-12 until Friday, February 27th. Bring $5.00 and your school ID to register.
