THIS DAY IN HISTORY:   1995 - A network of caves were discovered near the town of Vallon-Pont-d'Arc in southern France. The caves contained paintings and engravings that were 17,000 to 20,000 years old.

Hey Key Clubbers! We will be  having our last meeting of the Fall Semester today at lunch in Room S-12.  There'll be prlects and food: Key Club will also be registering new members for the spring semester, (please bring $6.), and collecting hours sheets from current members in front of S-12 from 1/19 to 1/31!

Attention all student-athletes interested in participating on the Davis High School Track and Field team.  There will be a mandatory informational meeting on Thursday, January 19 in the Davis High library.  The meeting will begin at 6:00pm.  Coach Elliott will communicate the rules and expectations, answer your questions, and take you through the steps necessary to get on the 2017 roster.

ACADEMICS:  PSAT scores: Students can pick up their PSAT scores during lunch at the Career Center starting Tuesday January 17th.

AP exams are available for purchase in the Webstore now!  $98 per test.  Online and in-person sales: now until 2/28 @ https://BlueDevilOnlineStore.myschoolcentral.com.  In-Person: DHS lunch time only at the Finance Office outside window.  If you are in need of financial assistance, please contact your counselor.
Are you a Latino student wanting to earn a college degree?  If so, you should attend the annual Steps to College Fair to learn about college opportunities and financial aid available to Latino students. The event will take place on Saturday, February 4 from 8:00 - 3:00 at the Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

Are you interested in biology?  If so, you may want to take the USABO Open Exam in February.  The USABO Open Exam is a 50-minute multiple choice exam available to all high school students.  It focuses on animal and plant anatomy and physiology, cell biology. Genetics and evolution.  Students who qualify could represent the United States in international competition. OPPORTUNITIES/EVENTS/MISCELLANEOUS:  Do you want unfettered power?  Do you want to be in charge of $40,000.?  Pick up an application in N-1A and run for an ASB Office!  Apps are due January 19th to the Vice Principal's office by 3:30 pm.

It's Idol Time!  This Friday and Saturday at 7:00 pm in the Brunelle Theater.  See your favorite singers!  Carolina Hernandez, Angelique Ballard, Wesley Romer, Christian Hunter, Shaleigh Thompson, Abbi Vemulapti, Andrea Pincilotti, Amy Fang, Lauren Duan, Simone Gamble, Xavier Yubeta, Stella Jee and many more will be performing!  Buy tickets in PA-8!

Do you want to volunteer?  If so, Yolo County Supervisor Don Saylor needs volunteers to help set up his annual "Soup's On" community fundraiser from 3:30 - 5:00 on Thursday, January 26 at St. James Church.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

It is time to sign up for this month's free Financial Literacy class that will take place in the Career Center on Friday January 20 at lunch.  Pizza will be provided!  The Yolo Federal Credit Union, in partnership with the PTA, will discuss "Identity Theft and Debit and Credit Card Fraud." The class is limited to 30 students, so sign up soon in the Career Center.

CLUBS:  No BSU meeting this week. Next week's meeting is January 25th.

Wanted: A few good chess players! North Davis Elementary -- just down the street from DSHS -- is starting a chess club and is looking for high school students to serve as assistant coaches. The Chess Club will meet on Wednesdays from 1:30-3:30, with actual chess beginning at 1:50. The "season" will last January 25th-end of March or so.
We have a main coach, just need some helpers to watch over games and give tips to the kids. The kids will be all ages up to 6th grade. If you're interested in helping to start this club, please contact North Davis parent Bobbi Avery at bobbiavery at gmail.com.
